About this listen

Aboard the Midnight Tide, what was meant to be a showcase of magic and mystery quickly turns into a deadly affair.

Rose Dela Cruz, the heart of the ship's operations as cruise director, never imagined that hosting the world's top illusionists would lead to a real-life murder mystery. When the star magician is found dead, hidden away behind the grand stage's curtains, the thrill of magic turns to a chilling quest for justice.

As Rose digs through layers of magic and misdirection, a cast of intriguing suspects emerges. There’s the envious rival magician, seething with bitterness; the slain illusionist’s fiancée, shrouded in secrets that could topple lives; and others aboard, each with motives as deep and shifting as the ocean.

With each clue she uncovers, the mystery deepens, weaving a dense web of deceit. Rex, her loyal beagle, is ever-present, his keen senses tuned to dangers that Rose can’t see. Captain Ben Anderson remains a pillar of strength in the tumult, while Cole Hester, Head of Security, pursues leads with a fervor that matches the rising stakes.

Navigating through a maze of lies and betrayal, Rose faces a harsh truth: in a world filled with illusions, uncovering the real killer might require the greatest trick of all. As the web of intrigue tightens, Rose must solve the puzzle before she becomes the next tragic act in this deadly performance.

The story was a bit unbelievable.

The AI reading wasn't too bad.
I did not understand the scope of authority the cruise director had. It was she who did most of the " detective" work and she who faced the killer alone in the end. And it was she who did the questioning of suspects. I Would have thought the Captain would have had more hands on involvement then the cruise director. This made it seem a bit on the ridiculous side for me.
