About this listen

You can’t run from your past. No matter how far you run, how much you’ve tried to change… the past has a way of catching up with you.

Moira Chase is ready for a new start. After the death of her beloved grandmother, she takes over the family bakery in the small, picturesque town of Pine Hill, Michigan. As the latest in a long line of witches, her roots in the town run deep, and aided by her skill with kitchen witchery as well as the constant presence of the spirits of her foremothers, Moira is more than ready to leave her past, and her secrets, behind.

But an innocent-looking purchase ends up adding more than just quirkiness to her shop, haunted by a woman desperate to keep a powerful artifact hidden from a being who poses a threat to everyone in Pine Hill. And Moira is forced to face the fact that, try as she might to live a quiet, peaceful life, her past and present are colliding in dangerous ways.

She has a choice to make: keep her secrets and watch those she’s beginning to care for fall to an almost-indestructible evil, or embrace everything about herself she’s been determined to keep locked away.

Ace of Wands is the first book in a new urban fantasy series by Colleen Vanderlinden, full of romance, witchiness, quirky small town antics, and plenty of twists and turns along the way.

Paranormal

This was an interesting paranormal story involving witches, wolf shifters, vampires and dhamphires. A witch inherits her grandmother's bakery. She uncovers a menacing ghost that won't leave her house and a murder mystery to solve. Meghan Kelly did a great job with the narration.

Delightfully Different! I Want More!

Kitchen Witch Moira Chase’s mission to bring her grandmother’s bakery back to life is flourishing … until she stumbles upon an ancient “enchanted” kitchen artifact! Now she has to choose between leaving her past in the past, or risking everything to right an old wrong … then there’s that handsome, alluring, growling, police chief Michael Hawkins! Delightfully different, “Ace of Wands” not only instantly captured my attention, it held me captivated, oftentimes on the edge of my seat! The plot features several different genre of paranormal characters, some completely new to me, but thanks to beautifully clear, entertaining and interesting writing, all was explained in a way that kept me engaged and deeply immersed in the story! I’m not giving any story spoilers, but I will say that the characters, dialogue and story had me at times laughing out loud, at times fretting for the characters I quickly came to care about, and at times wanting to put a few in one of Chief Hawking’s cells! Brought to life by fabulous voice acting, their world became mine as I listened! Every character voiced uniquely, emotionally and clearly, truly capturing the authors vision and completely hooking this listener! I loved every single detail, every single second, and I want more! Five fabulous stars!

There’s a new witch in town!

Ace of Wands is the first in the Moira Chase series by Colleen Vanderlinden. Moira inherits her family’s bakery from her grandmother, which seems to also include the spirits of all her female ancestors! Moira is making friends and trying to restart the bakery with her own kitchen witchery. But, there is something mysteriously nebulous beneath the surface of this new life. When Moira gets pulled into a dangerous situation by a tormented spirit with many secrets, everything breaks loose! Lots of action, quirky characters, family bonds, romance and other elements that make paranormal cozies special. The narration by Meghan Kelly is perfect for this book because she enhances the books wonderful weirdness. Ms. Kelly performance creates unique voices for all the many characters and matches the mood and atmosphere in the story. I recommend this new audiobook and look forward to more of the series. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review.

Loved Witch Moira!

Moira is a Kitchen Witch who has remodeled her grandmother’s bakery so she can re-open it and start selling baked goods.  She purchased some items from a sale and one of them seemed to be haunted by the previous owner.  She is trying to help this ghost since she can’t stop hearing her, but this is causing her past, that she wanted to keep buried, to come out.  She has also been spending time with the handsome chief of police.  This was a great story that kept my attention and had a lot of action and a little bit of romance.  I loved the magic and paranormal activity in the book and also the interactions between Moira and the chief of Police.  Meghan Kelly’s narration was perfection!  Her voices were unique for all the different characters and you could feel all the emotions that she put into the narration.  She made the book more enjoyable to listen to. I can’t wait to listen to the next book.

Welcome to a world with a new type of paranormal being

While this book starts out as a more typical paranormal book, it hooks you in quickly and introduces the reader to the entity created when someone mates with a vampire.

Great first book in this series. I look forward to reading more from this author and narrator.

Entertaining start of a new series

This story has multitudes of action, unique characters, family bonds, and romance. The main character, Moira, inherits her family’s bakery from her grandmother who recently passed away, which also appears to include all her female ancestors' spirits! While finding friends and attempting to restart the bakery, Moira gets put into a dangerous situation by a pained spirit with a secret that she has to uncover, and puts a lot of effort into getting rid of this spirit and solving its issues.
Ms. Kelly’s performance creates one-of-a-kind voices for all of the characters. I found this book interesting and look forward to more of the series!
