About this listen

Now considered a contemporary classic, Airships was honored by Esquire magazine with the Arnold Gingrich Short Fiction Award. The 20 stories in this collection are a fresh, exuberant celebration of the new American South - a land of high school band contests, where good old boys from Vicksburg are reunited in Vietnam, and petty nostalgia and the constant pain of disappointed love prevail. Airships is a striking demonstration of Barry Hannah's mature and original talent.

The sweet sweet words strike so hard. Great listen. Only time the narrator got to me was pronunciation of Yazoo.

Punch in the face

Loved the voice of the narrator. This is his greatest work as far in my opinion. Just love the way some of his sentences hit you in the gut.

One of my all time faves

Why a favorite?: characters deep or shallow, but always peculiar; profane, yet also all-things-human, although sometimes morally dubious; plots that meander between storyline and inward-ness; a Northerner's window into that which is Southern, as described by an odd man's dreams; but ultimately, it's that Hannah vernacular.

Favorite book of fiction

a Hodge podge mess from start to finish! I seriously would never recommend this book to anyone...

makes me feel sorry for the narrator!
