About this listen
All Artists Aren't Starving: A Guide to the Business of Art and Selling Your Paintings, Written by a Successful Working Artist
Sometimes you can make a sale, but other times you can’t. You may be earning enough from your day job but want to take the leap and be a full-time artist...but you have no idea how to make an art business profitable.
You may wonder how to effectively market your work. Your creative pieces may have received decent appreciation from other people - but you’ve only made a few sales. And the sales aren’t consistent...So, you’re afraid you won’t be able to keep paying the bills if you decide to go all-in on your passion. You may have asked yourself the following questions:
- Will I get another buyer next time?
- Where can I find them?
- How can I convince someone to buy?
These fears may have paralized you from expanding your limits. But your heart is fully into art. You can’t help but imagine yourself leaving your stressful job and just enjoy creating artwork while making a living from it.
You may be anxious about how you can put your masterpiece in front of your potential buyers and make your art business your stable source of income. But according to Anaïs Nin, a French-Cuban-American writer, “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage".
The saying that you will suffer if you’re an artist is not a universal truth. You only need the right strategies to make your creative pursuit fruitful - I and other artists have nailed it. Remember, it’s in our blood.
You, gifted soul, rise up and shine. Take heed of these practical steps and allow your talent to flourish and be financially rewarding.
In All Artists Aren’t Starving, you will discover:
- How to make money from your paintings without pressuring yourself to conform and do commissions
- The selling approach where you have all kinds of creative freedom
- The 3-step action to successfully market yourself and your work
- Why you need to have a mailing list for your art business - and how to make your emails interesting to keep your potential customers
- How to stay motivated when you don’t feel like creating an art piece
- How to sell your art without stressing about the sales process
- 10 things you must do if you’re serious about your art business
- How to be on top of your game (being an artist isn’t just about art and marketing)
- What habit you need to stop...or you may just lose your bright future as an artist!
- The ultimate artist’s guide to valuing your work so you can price your paintings well
- And much more...
You don’t have to be an extrovert to sell your art face to face.
You also don’t have to sound like a pushy salesman to capitalize on emails to persuade your prospects to buy from you.
Stop the suffering - it’s time to finally become the successful artist you’ve always dreamed of.
If you want to pursue your passion for art and consistently make money from it, then buy this audiobook now.

Story
Have you ever struggled with pricing your paintings? In my 40+ years as a professional artist, I have spent a fair amount of time at shows. There are always conversations with artists at these shows, other professionals who are also doing the show, or emerging artists coming by to see and learn. One of the most common questions I am asked relates to the pricing of paintings. So I have put together this guide to take some of the mystery out of pricing your paintings to sell.

The Rogue Artist's Survival Guide is an undisciplined, story-centric, offbeat, and honest approach to demystify what it takes to become a full-time artist. It is designed to help you navigate the clusterfudge that is the art world. A decade ago, there was no guidebook to lead me away from the overcrowded and overly pompous art market toward success.

Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Why is Red Bull so popular, though everyone—everyone!—hates the taste? Humans are, in a word, irrational, basing decisions as much on subtle external signals (that little blue can) as on objective qualities (flavor, price, quality). The surrounding world, meanwhile, is irreducibly complex and random. This means future success can’t be projected on any accounting spreadsheet. To strike gold, you must master the dark art and curious science of conjuring irresistible ideas: alchemy.

I may just take the leap!
Listening to this title has helped renew my hope that someday, I can make an art career happen for myself. I've been out of University for a few years and haven't earned my Masters, but I do have a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art. Fear of failure and lack of knowledge about the industry, despite having a degree, has held me back. This is helping me get motivated to create some new work, no matter how small, and attempt to sell it. There's a lot of practical tips in here about topics we didn't delve into at school, and hopefully this will help me get my foot in the door. Thank you!

Informative an wonderful reading!
This bill was very motivating and gave me a lot of helpful insights into the world of selling my art. I only have two wishes for “improvement”. First… more! I really wanted more. Not to say it wasn’t enough but I have more questions and would like even more specific examples of the different avenues for selling and more advice on the pros and cons of each. Perhaps specific places, maybe ideas for content for social media or newsletter distribution. This felt like it could totally be a workbook and I’d have loved more of that. Second? That I could sit with the author over a cup of coffee and pick her brain! She’s got the experience and knowledge!

Amazing perspective
As a life-long artist, I have always struggled to keep my head afloat - and to keep my bank account afloat. This book understands that struggle intimately. It's both practical (with action steps to take right now) and compassionate (with emotional support for you along the way). And it's beautifully read too. Great one.
