About this listen

Annette Wilkers was sitting in her rented room looking through the want ads wondering what she should do. She needed to find a job before her alimony money ran out; however, she was positive she never wanted to be a waitress again. What she really wanted to be was a Mom with lots of children.

It had been a year since her former husband had divorced her when they learned after three years of marriage that she couldn't have children. Annette couldn't help wondering why the marriage vow, 'for better or for worse' didn't mean anything to him when they received the disappointing news that they weren't able to conceive. What if he were the reason they couldn't have children? She could understand his disappointment because she felt the same feelings, but she wouldn't have divorced him.

She tried not to keep dwelling on it because it was too painful. A section of the newspaper slipped to the floor and when she picked it up, she saw an ad for a mail order bride. She couldn't help but read it...and it went as follows:

'Wanted a woman in her late twenties or early thirties who loves children. My wife passed away unexpectedly after giving birth to our son, who is three months old. I have three daughters, 12, 9, and 5...and again a son, three months old. We desperately need a loving mother...and I need a wife and companion that I can love too. The holidays are coming soon and we need you. We are in Evanston, Wyoming and we hope to hear from you soon!'

Annette reread the ad several times and decided that was the job for her! She had a good feeling about it...and to be able to have an instant family would be a dream come true!
