Good one overall

A Navy cook going from flipping eggs to taking on enemy fire at Pearl Harbor? Wild... that spy chick with the fake leg playing 4D chess with Nazis? Straight savage, and some dude snapping pics in the middle of literal concentration camps? Absolute unit lol There’s women, Black soldiers, even a crane operator at Pearl Harbor who just said, “Nah, not today, Japan.” The way they talk about their lives before and after makes it way more real, too

Inspiring audiobook !!!

American Heroes of World War II is a deeply moving and inspiring audiobook that left me in awe of the courage and resilience of ordinary individuals who accomplished extraordinary feats during one of history’s darkest periods.

What I loved most was how it spotlighted unsung heroes—people like Doris Miller and Virginia Hall, whose bravery was pivotal yet often overlooked. The detailed storytelling made each account feel personal and vivid, transporting me to the heart of their struggles and triumphs.

The diversity of the heroes featured and the range of their contributions, from battlefield valor to covert espionage, reminded me of the many ways individuals can make a difference. It’s not just a recounting of facts—it’s a celebration of human spirit and determination.

This book left me inspired and grateful for the sacrifices made by these heroes. If you’re a history enthusiast or just someone looking for stories of resilience and bravery, this is an absolute must-listen!

One of my favorite wars!

World war 2 has always been one of my favorite wars. I’m just fascinated by that time in history and the think I liked most about this book is that I learned things that you won’t normally find on TV. It has a lot of in depth information about people I’ve never heard of before even though I already know a lot about this war.

I felt both humbled and inspired listening to their experiences, from daring missions to moments of quiet resilience. Sacrifice and Bravery

American Hero of World War II is a gripping account of the men and women who have fought for freedom. Each story of the individuals who contributed to the support are interesting and individual. This is not just about the people who were in the front line of firing but everyone who supported the cause. It's stories like these who reinforce it's not the well publicized heroes who make a difference but the everyday people who are in the trenches - doing what they do best, who make a difference.

True Stories of Individual Bravery from the Battle

As a history enthusiast and avid reader of World War II literature, I was thoroughly impressed by Alex Viner's masterful compilation of lesser-known American heroes. What sets this book apart is its focus on the diverse array of individuals who contributed to the Allied victory, moving beyond the familiar narratives we've all heard before.
The storytelling is absolutely gripping. Viner has a remarkable talent for bringing these historical figures to life, making you feel as if you're right there with Doris Miller as he mans those anti-aircraft guns at Pearl Harbor, or shadowing Virginia Hall through the dangerous streets of occupied France. The level of research is exceptional, with details that clearly required extensive access to military records, personal correspondence, and interviews with surviving family members.
I was particularly moved by the chapter on Vernon Baker, whose Medal of Honor story exemplifies both the courage of our soldiers and the racial prejudices they had to overcome. The author doesn't shy away from addressing these complex social issues while maintaining focus on the extraordinary achievements of these remarkable individuals.
The inclusion of Lee Miller's story was especially powerful, offering a unique perspective through the lens of her camera and reminding us that heroism took many forms during the war. Her photographs of the concentration camps, as described in the book, still haunt me.
What I appreciate most is how Viner maintains historical accuracy while creating a narrative that reads like a page-turning novel. Each chapter leaves you eager to discover the next hero's story, yet also compels you to pause and reflect on their sacrifices.
This isn't just another war book – it's a vital addition to the historical record that finally gives these unsung heroes their due. If you're interested in World War II history, military biography, or simply enjoy reading about extraordinary human courage, this book is an absolute must-read.
A remarkable tribute to those who served, and a reminder that heroism knows no bounds of race, gender, or background.
