An Amazing set every American should listen.

I follow a lot. I mean a lot. And so I sometimes get caught up in intricate events in history, such as the American Revolution, Civil War, Chicago, Roaring Twenties, Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, and Gulf War. If you want detail, you have to buy individual books that cover those events exclusively. If you want to know the grand sweep of history, then this is a great audible to start with.

This is a great audible to start with.

If you want a detailed history of the U.S. this is as good a book as you'll come across. It is designed to be comprehensive of particular events, also a broad outline of events that shaped our country. Like other followers, I found it interesting to look at things from this perspective.

Very insightful

This not only includes overlooked details, but gives a parallax view. I have new insights into recent history not available from news reports at the time.

Good work

The author establishes a reasonable argument for the classification of a Revolution for America's Civil War based on parallels between the Civil War and the uprisings sweeping Europe during 1848. His statement goes hand in glove with the other history even occurred in 1848 and the Challenge to American Exceptionalism.

The American history in details.

Captivating History does a fantastic job of putting the Civil War in the context showing how Northerners, Southerners, recent immigrants, and Europeans saw the war in the context of their intentions of nationalism. The work is important to understanding the intellectual motives of both the North and the South for the War.
