About this listen

When an outlaw gang plunder a small ranch, killing the owners and kidnapping members of the family, they unleash a fury against them and an unrelenting thirst for revenge by former Union soldier Burrell Swope when he discovers the foul acts perpetrated on his family and home. Burrell and his companion-in-arms, Jackson Barnhart, two battle-hardened ex-soldiers, set out on the trail of the gang.

Despite many setbacks, at times it seems their quest is going nowhere; the pair track the gang to their lair in an abandoned monastery, where the bloody battle of Desierto de los Leones ensues. When the gun smoke settles, who will be left standing?

McCormic rides again.

Philip McCormick is quickly becoming one of my favorite western writers. Yeah, I mean you’ve got Zane Grey and you’ve got Louis l’Amour, but McCormack just has this ineffable quality that grasped a hold of you and gives you a head butt.

This is your standard family is murdered. Guy gets revenge on the bad guys type story. Being that it’s typical doesn’t mean that it’s not great there are new stories in the world just new ways to tell them, and Philip can tell a tale. This was really fun and enjoyable from start to finish. I’m the kind of guy likes to see the bad guys get their comeuppance.

Matt Weissgerber absolutely nails, the narration like he was holding a hammer in each hand. He added to the fun of the story and really brought that tense taut feeling as the pistols were pulled. If you are a fan of Western’s, you will enjoy this book.
