In this guide, I will present a few easily-available tools: Sudowrite Story Engine, ChatGPT, OpenAI Playground, and Bing Chat. I will show you how to set up these tools, use them to generate novel manuscript prose, and point you to resources to get you started.
Next, we’ll dive into my 14-day journey where I went from literally zero (no story idea) to 70000 readable and publishable words that form a coherent and complete novel.
Along the way, I’ll explain my decision-making process and the pros and cons of each method I used. You’ll get a ringside seat to my struggles to increase my AI word percentage, and I’ll show you how I made plot changes in midstream. You will see the exact (to the minute) time I spent in each phase with each tool, and you can judge whether I used AI effectively.
I’ll be candid about my thoughts and feelings, challenges and frustrations, serendipity and surprises while producing the AI words and mashing them with my own.
Finally, I’ll share the tips and tricks I learned, including shortcuts and methods. I’ll share screenshots and excerpts. Most importantly, I’ll provide the prompts and beats or commands I used as well as a list of common AI phrases for you to check your writing against.
