About this listen

Empress Elisabeth of Austria (known by all as “Sisi”), was considered to be the most beautiful woman of her time. Looks she had in abundance and they gained her the heart of an Emperor before her sixteenth birthday.

Emperor Franz Josef was tall and handsome, and for him it was love at first sight. She loved him as well and said yes.

Now young, newly-wed, and an Empress, the world was at her feet. All the people truly wanted was simply to gaze upon her.

How could this ever go wrong …? But it did … horribly wrong.

Sisi was a woman out of her time and place. She wanted the one thing the man she loved could never give her – the right to her freedom.

This is her moving, and at times heartbreaking, story. Told by someone who knew all her secrets, it’s an epic tale of a fairy tale princess who dreamed only of those things the rest of us take for granted – the freedom to speak, and live, and love as we wish.

Sisi, Empress of Austria.

I enjoyed listening to this biography! The only thing that I wish could have been better is the pronunciation of the European names … being of German decent it was annoying to hear so many words and places mid-pronounced.

It was a good listen overall… too bad someone who could speak German wasn’t able to narrate it.

I really enjoyed the content of the book and it’s one I’ll go back to again in the future, but the audiobook experience is lessened by it being read by a noticeably robotic voice that couldn’t always pronounce things correctly or read dates literally, like 1853 being one thousand eight hundred and fifty three. There are so many good voice actors in the realm of historical non fiction and I kept wishing it was one of them

I just wish it wasn’t a computer reading it

Nonfiction and factual novel about Empress Sisi. I’ve read multiple fictional novels about her, and this factual novel quoting letters from her and family members is a good read.

So hard to find a good biography of the empress elizabeth. Even this one could be better. at least it is straightforward and easy to listen to. most of what I have read or scene on television are all out of touch with reality.

A Good Read
