About this listen

There is a saying that all true love ends with tragedy, but it was not that way for Dan and Gabby.

Gabby and Dan’s short-lived affair cannot be forgotten, not even after Dan’s death in the trenches at Gallipoli.

He chooses to become Gabby’s guardian angel to be close to her. After more than 10 years, the Fates who rule Heaven have other plans for him. They assign him a task to befriend Gabby’s husband, doctor Tom Harrington, and encourage his work on a new vaccine.

Dan is thrown into a chaotic life, which tests more than his soul. His battle-damaged body is one hurdle that Tom helps him to overcome, but no one, not in Heaven or on Earth, can stop him from loving Gabby.

That’s the situation for Daniel when he dies and goes to heaven he finds out he hast to do community service and one thing he hast to do is be the guardian angel of his betrothed Grace who is now married another man. There is more at stake than just their marriage that if he doesn’t do it it could prevent a cure that could cure millions. Although this book sounds simple it was very good I liked it so much I started reading it and didn’t press pause until it was done it was so good. If you love original plot lines and romance and Supernatural you’re going to love this book. The writing is great the narration isawesome it’s a perfect book.

What if your guardian angel was the first man you ever loved? Now, what if he was your husband‘s guardian angel?

Okay this is a good audio but I don't think I would relisten to it.. I give it 4 stars because it started out really boring but once it got to the middle it got good and it was keeping me into it . I might relisten to it at the end of year but I'm not 100% sure yet about it. But it's still a good audiobook.

Good audio

I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When a narrator is great, the narrator can elevate any book -- from the best to the worst. However, when a narrator does not fit the material or is not a good narrator, the material, they can diminish the material no matter how good or bad the content. That is the case here. The narrator, Erin Bateman, is just not a good fit for this book. This book is told in first person -- and the gender of that character is male -- so when the book first started, I initially thought the character was female -- so that initially threw me off. Second, in general, she did not distinguish her voice between characters -- except for an occasion side character which was very odd -- and exposition. Third, this story takes place in Australia and, on occasion, uses Australian slang but this narrator is very clearly Canadian -- you can hear it every time she pronounced "sorry," "out," "about," etc. and the pronunciations seemed out of place. Finally, the tone of her voice, while pleasant, did not change in tenor related to the material -- at one point, one of the characters was suffering the loss of her child and the narrator could just as well been reading her grocery list versus trying to convery the loss this character was suffering. This book would have been better, in my opinion, had the narrator been different.

As to the story, it is a love story between Gabby and Dan, which transcends Dan's premature death. Dan, as an angel, thereafter becomes Gabby's guardian angel. To me, the love story was inconsequential and the story would have worked just as well without it [perhaps even having Dan fall in love with Gabby as he watches over her?]. [Perhaps this was a narrator issue and I would have felt differently if I had just read the text.]

I did like Gabby -- she was a well written character showing her joys, pettiness, grief. I was interested in hearing how she navigated through the story but Dan, Gabby's husband Tom, and everyone else in the story were somewhat superficial and not all that interesting. Overall, I wish the focus had been more on Gabby's story of living her life before and after Dan's death.

Narrator falls short

The story was different but interesting. I felt it left me with a somewhat cliffhanger. I had to pay very close attention to the narrator, because she didn’t change her voice for the male characters.

Interesting

This was a love story, very unique with the paranormal side. The story was well written completely enjoyable. The narrator was excellent for this story made it come to life. I received it free for an honest review but I would have bought it was so good.

Great!

I experienced a myriad of emotions while listening to this. I enjoyed it very much. I do have a criticism of the "fates". They scolded and penalized Dan when he interfered, but it was okay when they manipulated and interfered- quite the double standard just like we see today!
I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good.
