Publisher's summary

Presenting an original audiobook performance of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, starring the cast of the National Theatre's 2018 Broadway revival.

In this production, adapted especially for the listening experience, Andrew Garfield, Nathan Lane, and the entire cast recreate their acclaimed performances from the 2018 Tony Award-winning National Theatre revival of Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. With narration by Bobby Cannavale and Edie Falco, and a musical score by Adrian Sutton, this audiobook is a compelling and immersive theatrical listening experience.

A play in two parts, "Millennium Approaches" and "Perestroika", Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes is a complex and insightful look into identity, community, justice, and redemption.

New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, and heaven and hell as the AIDS crisis intensifies during a time of political reaction—the Reagan Republican counterrevolution of the 1980s.

Published to celebrate the Broadway revival, this is a unique opportunity to hear one of the most honored and timeless plays in American history.

  • Andrew Garfield as Prior Walter
  • Nathan Lane as Roy M. Cohn
  • Susan Brown as Hannah Pitt
  • Denise Gough as Harper Pitt
  • Beth Malone as The Angel
  • James McArdle as Louis Ironson

One of the best audible options you can listen to!

I’ve been a fan of Angels in America for years, having read the scripts and have been an avid fan of the 2003 HBO Miniseries. I had always wondered what the Broadway revival was like and when I discovered this audible listen, I immediately took advantage and couldn’t have been more satisfied and excited by what was offered. Listening to this is like being in the audience watching the show unfold before you. The cast is extraordinary, and even that is being modest on what they achieve with this iconic script from Tony Kushner. I think everyone should listen to this play, as it’s content is so important and timeless, but also, it’s an opportunity yo experience perhaps one of the greatest plays ever written.

Glad to relive the experience

So happy that this has been recorded for posterity. Although I can’t compare to casts in the past as I was not there to witness them, this ensemble was what I pictured all of these years and so am glad to have this to listen to in perpetuity.

Andrew Garfield...

Andrew Garfield’s performance as Prior is probably the worst part of this reading. He’s over acting and playing a total character of a gay man. Totally unrealistic and over done. Other than that this play is amazing Tony Kushner is fabulous!

Excellent Performance

I loved this performance of my favorite play of all time. The parts are well played with the characters so expressive. Angels in America speaks so clearly and beautifully to me as a gay Ex-Mormon. It is like therapy to me and it makes me cry every time I read it.

LOVED LISTENING

i saw the play 2 times, once in NYC and once in Berkeley. Enjoyed it both times. Listening to it being read helped me understand parts of the play that were confusing to me. It is well worth the time! Tony Kushner is amazing.

Cast of Angels

I attended this show in NYC last year. I have been walking on air ever since. joyful and uplifting. earnest and crippling. The AIDS epidemic is America's tragedy and one that killed so many, who should never be forgotten. worth the read, watch, listen, and ponder again and again.

Brilliant performances

Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane are especially fantastic, but the whole cast is honestly incredible. This audiobook was so vivid it almost gave the experience of watching the stage play.

Characters you love in the hardest of times

I saw this years ago and was so moved. Listening to this amazing performance was riveting in a space outside of this world. Wonderfully voiced, excellently acted and just truth and feeling right there. I grew up visiting my dad recently divorced in Chelsea around the corner from GMHC and though I knew things…this also taught me how much I didn’t and can’t know.
