Publisher's summary

A life-altering car accident, an act of unforgettable violence....

One woman’s courageous story.

Tricia Barker was a depressed, agnostic college student at The University of Texas in Austin...until a profound near-death experience (NDE) during surgery revolutionizes her entire world. As she learns to walk again, Tricia lets go of painful wounds from childhood and integrates some of the aftereffects of her spiritual journey into her daily life. She returns to college with renewed vigor, intending to embark on a new path by becoming an English teacher.

But after a year of teaching in the US, Tricia travels to South Korea, where she is the victim of a sexual assault. Now, she must use the wisdom she gained on the Other Side to heal herself, and later, guide countless junior high, high school, and college students to greater peace. Through teaching and mentoring others - many of whom are struggling with traumas of their own - Tricia decides to devote her life to bringing the “light” she experienced during her NDE to individuals who are seeking solace, inspiration, and overall well-being.

A most worthy read.

I will admit I am curious about angels and looked forward to hearing the author’s accounts of visiting the realm beyond this life; her details of which were uplifting and deeply thought provoking. What I had not anticipated was the inspiration I received as I was taken through her remarkable journey of healing, and the subsequent challenges of survival she would encounter thereafter. Tricia Barker’s writing is clear and frank and convincing. Yet her gift of description through her vivid choice of words swept me off the pages and into the grit of real life. My lasting impression lies in her work as a teacher and the gifts her life experiences have imparted to our youngest most valuable members of our human society... those kids whose needs for healing and guidance are of great import to the very success of our lives, to the very success of my own life. Healing those who hurt the most and the ripple effect of good this brings into our communities is a difficult thing to quantify but is easily understood in the heart. This book is a most worthy read. The Audible version and voice of the narrator Leslie Howard are a perfect paring. I could listen all day.

A really honest book

I'm a part time audiobook and book reviewer when time allows, but I did not receive this book in exchange for a review. I bought it myself, because of personal interest in this topic.

I am familiar with Tricia Barker from her YouTube interviews of Near Death Experiencers. I've been integrating some healing and spiritually transformative experiences for some time now, and the release day of Tricia's book was perfectly timed within that framework.

I was not expecting some of the topics that came up in this book, and because it deals very honestly with the topics of C-PTSD, PTSD, and other issues that are related to them I felt like it was a very honest look at NDEs and the healing process that we don't get an escape key from.

Tricia had an NDE but still needed to do the active work of healing her life from the inside out and this is a very good look at that process. There were things to integrate about the experience while still having a life just like anyone else's here on this planet.

This book was an important read for me. It is not a long read, but breaks were important due to being very close to some of the universal feelings expressed in the book.

The only way this book could have been better, honestly, is if Tricia narrated it. I know that's a big endeavor, and not something everyone wants to do. In any case it is a very important book which is likely to reach an audience which may feel unheard with their personal struggles, and I highly recommend it.

Captivating And beautifully written

I loved this book It wasn’t just your average NDE experience book it was so well written I loved it. The narrator was perfect. I didn’t expect it to be this good with such an average sounding title. But if you’re interested in after life experiences this is probably the best one I’ve heard so far.

For those of you unhappy with the narration,...

Some found the narration whisper like and slow. I did as well, so I turned the speed of the narration up, and it solved the problem! I enjoyed the words AND THE VOICE... So please try that before returning the book. Lots of good information inside. In deep respect for your path. Bless your journey.

There were some good points

There was a point she made toward the end that made the book worth it. I won't spoil that. The book is also a good counter to some of the negative life review content in other books.

Powerful

This book resonated so deeply with my own story. I was so stunned by how many topics she touches on that spoke right to me. It’s so much more than an NDE account, and gets into the subject of narcissistic abuse, sexual assault, childhood trauma, CPTSD, and so much more. I will be listening to this again and again to gain even more aha moments from it. It’s changed my perception as now I can “see” the angels and other spirit beings all around me all the time. I can feel them. And I know they are supporting me every step of my journey. So grateful I stumbled across this book.

Inspiring, Healing, Well-Written Memoir

I've read and listened to many near-death experience accounts (almost all of the major ones out there in print). Whether you resonate or not with this particular woman's story, there is no denying that this is a well-written, fast-paced book. I resonated with it because I also had an awakening in college. I didn't have a near-death experience, but like the author my life changed because of a spiritual experience. The chapters in this book have dramatic endings, and this is an emotional story. I can picture this book being turned into a movie because as the narrator was speaking I could vividly picture the various scenes in the U.S, South Korea, and Austin, Texas. I won't give a lot of the story away, but the author uses wit and craft to bring her story alive. It is beautiful at times, and heartbreaking at times. I especially loved the chapter about her father's passing because so many people have lost loved ones and long for that validation of love beyond the grave. Near-death experiencers seem to have that knowledge frequently. Highly recommend this book, and I thought the narrator's voice was very nice.
