About this listen

From Barbara Kingsolver, the acclaimed author of Flight Behavior, The Lacuna, The Bean Trees, and other modern classics, Animal Dreams is a passionate and complex novel about love, forgiveness, and one woman's struggle to find her place in the world.

At the end of her rope, Codi Noline returns to her Arizona home to face her ailing father, with whom she has a difficult, distant relationship. There she meets handsome Apache trainman Loyd Peregrina, who tells her, "If you want sweet dreams, you've got to live a sweet life."

Filled with lyrical writing, Native American legends, a tender love story, and Codi's quest for identity, Animal Dreams is literary fiction at its very best.

A Lovely Listen!

"Animal Dreams" is a long time favorite. listening to the author read it was an absolute joy. Her beautiful, melodic voice is a perfect fit I'm very pleased that she is recording her books now and I will enjoy them all over again. Not to mention her newer works, like "Unsheltered"

Another perfect book

Absolutely love Barbra Kingsolver! I've just listened to 4 of her books and the last 2 she performed amazingly! My daughter told me about her and I'm so glad she did. They all have great stories with hints of how we are killing Mother Earth built into them in a way that even a person that thinks the earth is here for us to abuse can even sit back and say hummmm. Quote (Where do you go when you've pissed in every corner of your playground)

Uplifting

I read this book twenty years ago and came back to it this winter. Kingsolver writes so deftly about nature, relationships, human frailty, and hope. And she does a wonderful reading here, taking her audience into Cody’s world with generous familiarity. This is a haunting, lovely story.

It destroyed me in all the best ways.

This is a book that you Feel. I felt the culture, people, love, loss, mourning, confusion and passion. What an amazing story - a story that pulled me in. I cried a lot and I’m fine with that. It was narrated by the author- what a gift.

The message of letting go and of finding hope

Liked the main character’s ability to find happiness with the help of many beautifully developed characters, including a sister.

Hope in a hopeless time

Maybe it’s what you do that makes you who you are, rather than the other way around. A story set in the ‘80s shows that feelings of despair and hopelessness are just part of the human experience. In a way, these feelings are a luxury, but they’re also a trap.

Barbara Kingsolver writes massively engaging stories, about everyday characters, that open the door to other perspectives. This book is no exception—yet it is exceptional.

Story telling at it's finest

Barbara Kingsolver is so masterful at weaving a tale and spinning out to the reader at a pace that allows one to enjoy the full beauty of the story.

Some complained about Barbara being her own narrator, but I found her voice perfect for narrating this well told story.

I am not someone who can write a detailed review of a book I just finished listening to. But I do just want to say, that if you enjoy the beauty of really good fiction, love listening to a well told story, then this book will be worth your time

Lovely

A beautiful tale of love, loss, belonging and finding home. A little slow at first but completely worth the investment.
