About this listen
Excerpt from Anna Blaze #4:
Jimmy climbed the stairs to the second floor. “Your room is up here, Anna.”
Anna and Carol followed with luggage in tow. Portraits and photos of people engaged in farm work hung on the walls leading to the second floor.
“These are photos of Jimmy’s family,” said Carol.
Anna studied the pictures as she climbed the stairs but suddenly froze in front of a black-and-white photo of a young boy about seven years old.
“What’s wrong, Anna?” asked Carol.
“Something awful happened to this little boy,” Anna answered.
Jimmy set his boxes down at the top of the stairs and walked back to where Anna stared at the picture.
“What did you say, Anna?” Jimmy asked.
“Something terrible happened to this little boy. Who is he?”
“That was my Uncle James. I share the same name as him.” Jimmy replied.
“What happened to him? I sensed he couldn’t breathe because he was stuck somewhere. He was scared and alone when he died.” Anna’s troubled face sought answers as she looked at Jimmy to supply them.
Jimmy and Carol were stunned. Anna knew about their uncle. But how?
“Uncle James was helping load corn into the seed bin when the machine got clogged. He climbed into the seed bin to clear the blockage, but when the clog opened, his foot slipped and fell into the seed bin. Uncle James suffocated before Grandpa could pull him out.”
“What a terrible way to die. I am sorry about your uncle, Jimmy.”
“That happened way before I was born, Anna. I never met him. Please explain how you got this information about Uncle James?”
Anna shrugged her shoulders. “It’s just something I saw in his face. I felt sad looking at him, so I focused on why I was sad.”
Jimmy and Carol studied the photo carefully. They could not find any clue in the old picture to hint at Uncle James’ tragic end. Anna was a sensitive and gifted child.
“I see. If you find anything else in this house that causes you concern,” said Jimmy, “will you please share it with us so we can help you understand it?”
“Sure, I can do that,” Anna agreed.
