Anthem is a dystopian fiction novella by Ayn Rand, written in 1937 and first published in 1938 in the United Kingdom. The Fallacy of "We" And The Power of "I"

I really wish I would have discovered this gem earlier in my life. It is powerful message of what it means to have individual freedom. It fits right in with 1984 & A Brave New World. Definitely worth a listen.

To be an individual

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author.
I quite enjoyed this story. Equality 7-2521 is different from his peers and other citizens. Thinking for yourself, thinking or doing outside your given profession, discovery, asking questions- these are all forbidden. Only the scholars can discovery and invent. Although Equality 7-2521 wishes to be a scholar, when it comes time to assign him his vocation he’s given street sweeper. But he can’t stop thinking, trying to find a better way to do things. Showing affection for another person is also unacceptable as this shows partiality. Equality 7-2521
finds one girl particularly attractive. Eventually he individualism is discovered and he flees. Is it possible to create a society where individuals may exist?

This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Roberto Scarlato) and I would listen to another. His style works for this book. It adds to the conformist idea of this book and Equality 7-2521’s self discovery.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.
