Friendship to Lover perfection

Loved this story! Ileum and Adohan needed this ending. Can not wait for your next book. Hoping the legion will be back and that Elena and Raphael will have a baby surprise.

Never fan-girled so hard over fictional characters

I will freely and honestly admit that I've always been biased in Ms. Singh's favor since I stumbled across Angel's Blood and became a Guild Hunter fan from then on but this has become my favorite favorite story out of the entire series. I waited many years for Illium and Aodhan to get their own stories and the only thing I can say that disappointed me was that the story had to end. This beautifully written story shines a little more light on all the characters that we've come to know in the series and wrapped up questions lingering through out the series. This is a must read that will not disappoint but leave you wanting more.

Loved it a little bit more each time I read it

I have to be honest, I was a little disappointed the first time I read it. Perhaps I was expecting a lot more romance, passion? But this book is different from the others in the series in that it is a slow burn and the main plot has less to do with what is happening in China and more to do with what is happening in the main characters' heads.

Once I got over my initial disappointment, I listened to it again and realized how much I actually liked it.
-The backstories of adorable little Blue and Sparkle.
- The emotional tumult their minds are in the present day. The constant push and pull they struggle to understand.
- Their seemingly immature fights and insecurities: which turned out to have depths and layers and cogency.

Highly recommend multiple reads as you will likely get to see a different facet of the story you might have initially missed.

boyhood bff getting over their fears

good story, though I didn't like hearing about the torture. I don't think it needed elaborated on, just stating how the lack of the necessary element caused the gross issues is all that was needed for the story. everything else was just as great as the rest of the series.

Archangels light

I am a long time fan of Nalini Singh’s work. I was worried about this book due to M/M isn’t my thing. Nalini Singh focused more on the love story between the two and not on the sex aspect. There was no need to skip any pages. The book was pg 13.
The love story itself was extremely sweet and one of the best she has written.

From boys to men, friendship to love

Listened to audio narrated well by Justine Eyre. After listening to her narrate so many books in this series, I can't imagine another author doing justice to these characters.

Aodhan aka 'Sparkles' is radiant. He was a quiet boy, with parents that didn't really know what to do with him. He's been coveted all of his life for his beauty, which lead to horrors no child should suffer.

Illium aka 'Bluebell' has always been gregarious but grew up with a mother who would lose herself and a father who abandoned him. He loves deeply and holds those he loves a little to tightly at times.

Aodhan and Illium made a connection as young boys and were inseparable. Each suffered tragedies and horrors which affected them profoundly. Aodhan has been healing but his best friend still treats him as fragile causing a rift between them.

This is Illium and Aodhan's story, that goes back to when they were little boys and brings us to their present. We relive their young adventures and friendship, discover the things that hurt them physically and soul deep that led them to where they are today.

Raphael loaned Aodhan to China's Archangel to serve as second while she establishes herself and begins rectifying all that Lijuan poisoned. During his absence, his friendship with Illium began to fall apart. When Illium arrives to provide additional support, they must decide to continue on their separate ways or heal what divided them. Repairing their friendship, and working together to discover what is killing and skinning people in China reveals a deeper bond than they had ever acknowledged.

The depth of Illium and Aodhan's history has been hinted at in previous books, their story was so much more than I expected. I would have liked more heat and time in their present but I understand from the author that more of their story is coming in the future.

While loving Aodhan and Illium, I am truly DONE with the Lijuan storyline. I didn't realize how over it I was until reading all of the evil still happening in China. I truly hope Singh will be closing this chapter soon.

What a bright light! 😊

I was not sure if there was a way for Nalini to top herself and she did just that with this book. I love Sparkles and Bluebell so much and I really enjoyed getting a look at their history and friendship throughout the centuries. In spite of the darkness in the corner of the world where they find themselves, they fight to find the light. As always Justine did an amazing job bringing all of the characters to life. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Oh my heart!

This is by far the most beautiful love story Nalini Singh has written. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that we have known these characters for so long in the series but you can just feel the longing and the love they have for eachother in every sentence.
