The robots are coming - but they probably don’t look anything like you expected…
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to revolutionize your life. Will it cost you your job, or give you a new career? Will it isolate or liberate you? Will it lead us all into a new type of war, or save us all from sickness?
The truth is that nobody knows, yet. But the AI revolution is fast approaching, and the world has little time to prepare. But prepare we must, because, as James Adams and Richard Kletter explain in Artificial Intelligence: Confronting the Revolution, what mankind has set in motion cannot now be undone - and it’s going to change everything.
In this ground-breaking work, Adams and Kletter clearly explain the potential and likely ramifications of AI. They show how ill-prepared we are for the forthcoming "fourth industrial revolution" and look at how human beings might fare as it unfolds. Meticulously researched and extensively referenced, this audiobook to the brave new world is created by two highly credible authors, who use all of their experience, insight, and contacts to give listeners a privileged look into that which is to come. This is surely a ‘must read’ for anybody who takes an interest in current affairs and social history, as well as those with an interest in technology.
James Adams is a former Sunday Times journalist and entrepreneur and a former Board Member of the National Security Agency who has worked with the CIA and the White House on issues including cyber security, warfare (including cyber warfare), espionage, and terrorism.
Richard Kletter has been a Research Associate at Stanford focused on new communications technology, an adjunct professor at USC where he consults for the DOD lab, The Institute For Creative Technology. He co-holds mobile software patents and ran a web content company funded by leading tech companies.

A great listen - important and compelling

The author not only presents problems (born of universal human cluelessness, remember), but he offers solutions. The critical problem with his solutions is that they are elitist - meaning they are top-down solutions - only fit for a mindless, pliable populace of Barbie dolls to be played with by the elite.
More curious then the intended content was the author's self-perception as an elite - as if being a thinking person was that glaring where he comes from, enough to enjoy perks...
Laudably he slams China for using AI for authoritarianism (never mind the undercurrent of traditional warlord mentality being contained), but in a masterstroke of blind hypocrisy, his own solutions are authoritarian, and would benefit from such measures.
The general guidelines that he offers are trite platitudes - too weak to be applied to reality, and none broad enough to offer clueless humans overall life-guidance, meaning a path out of their cluelessness, which is the real underlying peril behind AI.
3 stars because he does present uncommon information, but you have to ignore the accompanying cluelessness, negativity, and the sickening elitism.
Clueless, Negative, Elitist

This book is about automation, machine learning, weak and strong artificial intelligence. It covers the benefits which are known, but more importantly it covers some of the risks, which are existential and extraordinarily high.
The authors are quite thorough in there analysis of the unregulated field of artificial intelligence and the possible ramification of continuing on this route. Invoking Technological Determinism, it is assumed that anything that can be made will be made, as shown many times in history, people are geared to react once the threat has been identified.
The book proposes that the paradigm shift alone from this technological revolution will change the balance of power and this has always come with violence and instability in the history book.
A very rare and wise book on what to expect with the advancement of AI.

We all know these types of people are unbearable, so if you were hoping for a nice conversation about AI without taking a ride on the “everybody who doesn’t agree with me is hitler” train, then pass this one up.
