Publisher's summary
The future is less fearsome when you know what you’re facing. Shape AI's future by actively participating in this technology—even if you’ve never considered yourself a techie.
Bring up the subject of AI and you’re liable to receive opinions from opposite sides of the spectrum.
On one side, you’ll find the firm supporters of AI—those who are excited about the shortcuts afforded by ChatGPT, or keen to harness AI’s game-changing abilities in spheres such as healthcare, finance, or robotics.
On the other side are the naysayers—those who either turn a blind eye to the rapid advancement of AI or those who feel that AI will never reach the level of sophistication required to take over their jobs.
Yet AI is here to stay and if you want to avoid being stampeded by its progress, then you might as well be one of its drivers.
This doesn’t mean you have to be an AI developer or even work in tech.
It simply involves being aware of specific ethical considerations, the core benefits and disadvantages of using AI, and the sectors whose jobs are most likely to be replaced by AI.
It additionally means using AI to your benefit by harnessing the most powerful AI tools available—both in your profession and in your personal life.
And that is exactly why this book was written. Consider it a comprehensive guide for all you need to become more involved in AI.
Instead of being a passive observer to its onslaught, you can form part of a movement that decides where this technology goes and what role you wish to play.
It’s logical to hope that technological advances will always be for the best.
And without a doubt, artificial intelligence has the potential to create a fairer, more equitable, and kinder society.
But it also has its disadvantages—and knowing what these challenges are (and how to negotiate them) is vital if you wish to make the most of AI, without letting it sweep you up.

Story
When a traumatic event occurs, our body triggers its “fight or flight” response. In many scenarios, the emotional reactions of this response get trapped, disrupting the feedback loop between our mind and body, leading to an imbalance in our nervous system function. Over time this can cause chronic stress, pain, high blood pressure, and a weakened immune system. This, alongside regular triggers in our everyday life, will manifest into a disconnection between our mind and body and create a constant feeling of dissociation from our emotions, with minimal control over how we feel.

On May 31, 2014, in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha, Wisconsin, two 12-year-old girls attempted to stab their classmate to death. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier’s violence was extreme, but what seemed even more frightening was that they committed their crime under the influence of a figure born by the internet: the so-called “Slenderman”. Yet the even more urgent aspect of the story, that the children involved suffered from undiagnosed mental illnesses, often went overlooked in coverage of the case.

The grid is an accident of history and of culture, in no way intrinsic to how we produce, deliver and consume electrical power. Yet this is the system the United States ended up with, a jerry-built structure now so rickety and near collapse that a strong wind or a hot day can bring it to a grinding halt. The grid is now under threat from a new source: renewable and variable energy, which puts stress on its logics as much as its components.

In Prediction Machines, three eminent economists recast the rise of AI as a drop in the cost of prediction. Run a Google search for “black girls” - what will you find? “Big Booty” and other sexually explicit terms are likely to come up as top search terms. But, if you type in “white girls”, the results are radically different. The suggested porn sites and un-moderated discussions about “why black women are so sassy” or “why black women are so angry” presents a disturbing portrait of black womanhood in modern society. In Algorithms of Oppression, Safiya Umoja Noble challenges the idea that search engines like Google offer an equal playing field for all forms of ideas, identities, and activities.

My knowledge of AI was minimal until this book. The capabilities of AI named and defined were mind blowing. The warnings regarding use of the platforms will certainly be heeded now that I am aware. Will be Exploring AI instead of being oblivious. Invitation to stay informed accepted ! Good book.

Brings Clarity to all the AI Confusion
Machine Learning. Deep Learning. Neural Networks. Reactive Machines. Limited Memory AI. Ugh. As with any technology, when Artificial Intelligence went mainstream, its use baffled many folks, and I was definitely among them. Between perceived threats of machines taking over the world and warnings of computer-led Armageddon, everyone seems to have their opinion, which only throws gas on the fire of confusion surrounding AI. Fortunately, this audiobook seeks to bring some clarity to the situation, and it does so very successfully. The author does a great job painting the big picture and then adding details to fill in the blanks. The different types of AI are discussed and explained, and AI through the ages is laid out in an easy-to-understand decade-by-decade timeline. I was astounded by the incredible potential of AI in just about every facet of life, from Healthcare and Financial Sector Advances to Transportation, Entertainment, and Robotics. Lest we become concerned that AI-driven cybersecurity will end up policing itself, the author addresses these concerns in sections about "Benefits and Drawbacks" and "Ethical Concerns". There's a whole lot here to unpack, and this book does a great job at doing just that. A masterful work that's well presented and expertly narrated. I fully recommend it.

You Choose
I am so thankful for this audiobook that lays out the pros and cons of AI. I believe people are so excited about the new capabilities it has to improve and simplify our lives, but have not considered the costat what cost? The really hard part is that we cannot see the future to know the end result. No matter where you stand on the topic, it is your job to govern how it will affect your life. The book makes it easy to understand even if you have no technical skills with it.
it helps you understand the ethical considerations, benefits, and risks. The audiobook serves as a comprehensive guide, empowering individuals to embrace AI, harness its tools, and contribute to a more informed, equitable, and compassionate integration of artificial intelligence into our lives. It is a needed book, and everyone can gain perspective on AI through this book.

Interesting Take on AI
Just finished this audiobook, and enjoyed the interesting spin it had on the topic of AI. The book covers the basics of AI and its impact on various industries, making it relevant for a wide audience. It strikes a nice balance between the potential and the pitfalls of AI. it focuses on the technical aspects but also gets into ethical considerations, which made me think about the broader implications of AI in our lives. The discussion on how AI can be used in everyday tasks was particularly insightful, showing how it's not just a tool for experts but something that can benefit everyone. What stood out to me was the emphasis on being an active participant in the AI revolution. The book encourages listeners to engage with AI, not just as users but as informed citizens aware of its ethical and societal impacts. It's a call to be mindful of how we let AI shape our future. I felt this book was an excellent primer on AI for anyone looking to understand its role in our world today. The narration is smooth and easy to follow, which was a bonus! Highly recommended.
