About this listen
It started with iridescent wings... now one woman must face danger and mystery beyond her wildest imagination.
Created by Primordials, daemons were made in the likeness of humans following a devastating betrayal. And for nearly six hundred years, Agnes was the Mage who protected them, kept them alive, and gave them power. Since her death, the seven factions of daemons have been on the brink of war, inching closer and closer to burning the world to the ground.
Anthropologist Greer Myers believes mythical creatures belong in fairy tales. But when she is unexpectedly thrust into the world she thought only existed in the folklore she studied, the source of her unusual magic is whispered amongst the daemons. The plot for her rise, or her fall, begins in the shadow of a secret society established to hunt her ancestral line.
When a strange man appears with a grimoire and claims that he can help her find her birth mother, Greer- smart and independent- decides to take on the mystery by herself. Weaving lies about her identity and going undercover as a journalist, the mission for information seems safe enough at first, but soon Greer learns the hard way just how sinister and otherworldly her mother’s death really is.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Fun Paranormal Urban Fantasy with Romance Subplot
I had no clue where this one was going to go. It said enemies to lovers and I was like is Kian (I listened to the audiobook so I don't know how to spell his name!) really going to be her "lover"??? It had to be but they did not start out as enemies. It was more reluctant allies with a portion of future betrayal. Thus it was more like somewhat allies to friends with benefits to enemies. We shall see how this unfolds... I will mention the romance was a minor plot in this book!
The rest of the story had a lot of branching parts but they were all interconnected which we find out kind of how towards the end.
The narrator was good but I did not like the voice for Odette (spelling?) and Deliah. Regardless I would love more on Odette's story. I would read hers in a heart beat from the beginning! It was so interesting to me. I was honestly hoping for a true enemies to lovers there but then we learn why not..but I have hope LOL.
Definitely fun for people who are fans of urban fantasy as well as those who aren't, like me!

I loved the audio of this book. The narrator was brilliant.
If you love a good urban fantasy with a messed up history that the FMC needs to figure out to save herself and her heritage- this is it for you!

Paranormal urban fantasy that draws you in!
Sadie does an amazing job crafting this intricate paranormal urban fantasy world and drawing us in. I love that it has lots of different paranormal aspects to it. It feels all encompassing and I really enjoyed that. It's not just magic or just fae or just vampires. You get a taste of everything.
Our main character, Greer, discovers that she has power during a traumatic event, and everything that she's ever known is completely flipped upside down. Now, she has to navigate a world completely different than the one she grew up in, and she doesn't know where to turn. Questions arise. Some are answered. Some are not. New alliances are formed. Romance is discovered. Heavy conflict arises. This book really has it all, and then some. It's fast-paced but doesn't rush any of the storyline, and it's easy to see that this series has a lot to offer going forward. I can't wait to explore that.

Greer Myers is a budding anthropology researcher and the world she knew suddenly shatters after a chance encounter sends her on a course of uncovering clandestine societies, hidden magic, and mythical creatures she thought only existed in the folklore she researches.
Long-kept secrets begin to unravel and Greer finds herself in the center of sinister intentions, betrayal, and otherworldly threats.
Tropes:
👀 Multi POV
👯♀️ Sassy FMC
🧙🏻♀️ Mythical creatures & supernaturals
🫥 Hidden identities
💫 Elemental Magic & training
🧑🧑🧒🧒 Found family
💔 Betrayal
🌶️: moderate
Greer serves as the central character of this story but the book expands to feature a dynamic ensemble cast. The audiobook narrator paints a vivid and rich world. Each character is distinctly portrayed and every emotion and quip well represented.
Greer is sassy, smart, but impulsive. We explore her loss and struggle with self-identity. I am looking forward to her continued journey throughout this series as she grapples with the consequences of her choices and unknown future.
Filled with thrilling magic, captivating lore, and a gripping plot, As the Fallen Rise is a fantastic installment in this contemporary urban fantasy series!
Huge thanks to the author for this advanced listening copy! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Enjoyed Listening to the audiobook
This was a fast paced introduction to the series. I love the premise and plot of the novel. Although I loved the characters in this book, from its main characters to side characters, the character dynamics were lacking.

SUCH A COOL STORY!
I can't say enough good things about this book. It was a breath of fresh air and such a joy to listen to. It was partly due to the story itself but also for the narration! It was wonderfully done and I highly recommend it.
