About this listen

She needs his love. He needs her safe.

When a workplace romance becomes something deeper for Lexie Harper, she’s devastated to learn Asher Becket is determined to keep their sensual touches and passionate kisses behind closed doors. But that’s not good enough. Lexie won’t be anyone’s dirty little secret…especially when she’s harboring a secret of her own that won’t stay hidden for long.

As an ex-special forces soldier with a target on his back, Asher lives each day with just two goals: put an end to Project Arma, the program that changed him forever; and keep his feelings for Lexie locked down tight. His life is a hotbed of danger, and he’ll die before letting it touch her.

Then Lexie’s secret is discovered by people so evil, Asher’s her only hope of staying alive. Instead of pushing her away, he’ll have to hold his greatest obsession closer than ever.

Asher and Lexi!!

Audible narrators, Avery Crais and Oliver Clarke did an amazing job with these characters and story. They understood the characters and portrayed them perfectly. What makes a great story come alive listening is when the narrators put feelings and heart into the words they are saying and these two did a phenomenal job!!
Asher and Lexi were friends with benefits and it worked great for them, until it didn’t. Lexi found herself wanting more than a hookup with Asher after seeing Evie and Shylah happy with their guys but Asher couldn’t or wouldn’t give her that. So, Lexi called it all off unless he was willing to commit to her.
Asher felt like his reasons for keeping Lexi at arm’s length was the best approach but now he isn’t too sure. Lexi is hiding something and he needed to find out what it was.

A Gripping Romantic Suspense! Great Story & Listen

I am loving this series and I would say it keeps getting better and better, but that would not be fair to the first two books because they are just as amazing as this one. I recommend enjoying the series in order written, each book features different lead characters, but characters crossover into each other’s books and seeing them again is like seeing an old friend. And there is an ongoing “Project Arma” storyline, and it is beneficial to be in it from the start, more details surface in each book as the team gets closer to their target or the target gets closer to them. This third book is Lexie and Asher’s story, they have been dancing around each other from the start and there was definitely something going on between them and I’ve been looking forward to finding out what. I was also looking forward t learning more about them too. Asher a former seal who, like the other men who were on his seal team, were wronged, used as lab rats to experiment with power enhancing drugs, altering their DNA. They got out of Project Arma, but those responsible for it and ran the experiments escaped. Asher and the others formed Marble Protection, but their primary mission is to mission to find them and take down Project Arma. The problem is those on the run are aware of this and always one step ahead, plus they continue to conduct experiments on others, so they are not the only ones with superhuman powers. Asher and Lexie have been spending time together, but Asher wants to keep their relationship a secret, though he won’t tell her why. He has his reasons, one being it could put her in danger, but she takes it otherwise. But it is something else that puts a target on her back and now Asher and the team need to keep her safe. The writing, plotting and world building are fantastic and there is a perfect balance of drama, angst, action, twists and turns, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and another fabulous romance. Nyssa Kathryn, thank you for another fantastic story and the wild and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧  And for the fabulous narration, Avery Crais and Oliver Clarke did an amazing bringing these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying and were believable in every role they played. The quality of the audio and their performance was top-notch and you could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured all the character’s emotions and had you feeling every single one. They set the perfect tone for the story and handled the witty dialogue with ease. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen.

Super soldier baby!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😚☹️🥹😉
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Lexie - she grew up with a drunk for a mother who hadn’t cared for Lexie as a child and now that she was grown, only contacted Lexie for money. Lexie had no idea how to be a mother so when she took multiple pregnancy tests and found herself pregnant, she was very worried about her future. She works at Marble Protection, a security and protection firm run by a bunch of former military men, including Asher, whom she had been sleeping with. Though he had a fear of commitment and had been keeping whatever he had with Lexie hidden like a dirty little secret.

The Hero: Asher (a.k.a. Stryker) - he was 32 years old and a former Navy Seal. He and his team were involved in Project Arma and without their knowledge were injected with a genetically engineered serum designed to turn them into super soldiers. Now he was out and co-owned Marble Protection with his best friends and former team members. He healed quickly was faster than almost any species on earth, has superhuman strength and other abilities. Lexie didn’t know anything about his abilities, it was too dangerous. He wanted her to keep her normal life.

The Story: Lexie had recently given Asher an ultimatum to commit to her or end things and they had broken up as a result. But Asher continued to show his interest in Lexie. He told her flat out that he was not willing to let her into his life more but also wasn’t willing to let her go and give her space. Lexie decided to wait a while before telling him about the baby.

The story was pretty good. I have always liked the accidental pregnancy trope, and this one was compounded by the fact that Lexie was carrying a baby that was the product of a man who had genetically modified DNA. Add to that, the people behind Project Arma find out about the baby and want to get a hold of Lexie to study the progeny of their experiments. There were also the relationship issues between Lexie and Asher. I am liking this series quite a bit so far and plan to read and listen to more of the books going forward.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Avery Caris and Oliver Clarke. Avery Caris has a nice voice, she sounds age appropriate for Lexie, and sound very natural, not like she is reading. Oliver Clarke has a good voice as well; he was good at using different voices for different characters. Though you could definitely tell he was reading.

Action and Romance!

This story is packed with action and teeming with romance. Lexie and Asher’s romance starts off hot and tumultuous and concludes in a rock solid relationship. Along the way, there’s the usual bad guys trying to do bad things, and the good guys (including Asher) ride in to save the day. Avery Caris and Oliver Clark do an amazing job of bringing Lexie and Asher to life, showcasing Lexie’s inner fire and Asher’s deep protective streak (once he gets his read straightened out). A great listen when you’re looking for both heat and action.

Gripping

This was an entertaining romantic suspense story that ticked all the boxes for me. Well written, the narration was good and the narrators,  were easy to listen to. From the first chapter I was hooked on the story that was told. There were equal amounts of romance and suspense which was entertaining. The characters were easy to relate to and I really liked them.

Loved this

Oh Asher. He is so frustrating but I can’t help but love him! It was evident he cared for Lexie but the distance he kept putting between them was frustrating. And sweet Lexie, her strength is commendable. All the female characters in this series have been such a great example to strength but I connected with Lexie. She had to endure a hard past and then gets wrapped up in project Arma. She never gave up and became even stronger through it all. I hope we get to see more of her and Asher through this series!

Oliver Clarke and Avery Caris did a phenomenal job narrating! Oliver captured Asher’s laid back but protective personality well! I loved Oliver’s ability to voice all the characters (male and female). Same for Avery! They could have carried this book on their own if needed. But the two of them together made this story great! They really helped me feel the chemistry and the chaos between the characters and the story.

Really liked the male narrator

Appreciated the “manly” tone. The female narrator was ok. Just a bit too whiny voiced sometimes

The voice acting was cheesy

I don’t think the voice actors reading this story were very practiced. The voices they chose to try for different characters were hard to listen to. But while they were reading the normal bits of the story it was fine.
