About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Murder forces the unlikeliest of allies.

On the eve of the planet Ileri's historic vote to join the Commonwealth, the assassination of a government minister threatens to shatter everything. Private investigator Noo Okereke and spy Meiko Ogawa join forces with police chief Toiwa to investigate - and discover clues that point disturbingly toward a threat humanity thought they had escaped.

A threat that could destroy Ileri and spark an interplanetary war...unless the disparate team can work together to solve the mystery.

Interesting characters, a gripping plot, thrilling action, all delivered with sterling narration. If this is how Appel is starting out, I am here for every step of the journey!

Can't wait for the next one!

I will start with a question - will there be more coming? I want to know if I can expect more of this universe that John Appel crafted in his debut novel. I always enjoy novels where I need to know more, what happens next, what happened before, etc. And I think John accomplished that. He told a story of a murder that involved mystery and military action all peppered in a future that has an intriguing past.

The audiobook version had the perfect narrator. She made the dialog immersive and each character had a distinct voice.

Well done all around!

A Sci-fi thriller that delivers!

I really enjoyed this story-- the universe dreamed up by the author is captivating, and plot is interesting as well. My only complaint is that there are a lot of characters, so many that there isn't much space for character development, and at times it can hard to follow who is who. But I'm very impressed with the narrator's ability to switch between such different accents!

Great world building and plot!
