About this listen

This is a book that EVERYONE can learn from! Although set in the context of the legal field, there are far more practical applications in every aspect of life. Read just a few of the short entries in the Sample and you'll definitely want to read more.

Mark R Matthews earned his Juris Doctorate degree at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University; he then passed the Bar (on the first try) in California. After working with a few small law firms (including his own) handling mostly business-related issues (management and litigation, he transitioned into teaching Law School (serving at the following: Charlotte School of Law, Texas Southern University - Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Western State University College of Law, and Whittier Law School). He is currently providing in-house counsel services.

While teaching law school, Mr. Matthews was fortunate to teach a number of different classes, including: Advanced Civil Advocacy - Trial Skills; Alternative Dispute Resolution; Business Associations; California Civil Procedure; California Civil Procedure and California Evidence; Civil Procedure; Contracts; Introduction to Study of Law; Law Practice Management; Practice in Context - Real Estate Transactions; Problems in Practice - Civil Wrongdoing; Professional Responsibility; Property; Trial Practice; and UCC-Sales. From the beginning of his teaching career, as part of each class, Mr. Matthews decided to incorporate a few minutes at the start of class to offer “Attorney Advice” regarding things he had experienced or learned during his practice that would be helpful for a new attorney to know sooner rather than later.

Many students have asked that the “Attorney Advice” be put into a book. This is the result of those requests. Although most are things drawn from his practice and experience, some are taken from judges or other attorneys that have felt “there are things everyone should know, but they do not teach you in law school”.
