About this listen
It is the beginning of the Martian invasion. Victorian Britain is in panic. Alien beings are in huge tripod fighting machines. Human kind is being displaced in millions as the coming chaos consumes all forms of law and order.
A sleepy village in Dorsetshire is trying to hold on to the last vestiges of social values. Yet everything is breaking down rapidly. The inhabitants can see the smoke clouds of destruction on the southern horizon, where the seaside towns of Bournemouth, Poole and Swanage are in flaming ruins.
All can make out the distant fighting machines causing such devastation. Each evacuee knows the Martians will be coming from the east, or sweeping northwards from the burning south coastal towns.
The old folk want to form a local citizen's militia. They are too old to run with the younger men. The remaining trains are for women and children only. With great aplomb, the old villagers of the LCM acquire some field guns. Armed with such artillery pieces and a smidgeon of ill-deserved confidence, the valiant LCM are going to defend the train station for all they are worth. Insisting that they can show the Martians a thing or two.
