About this listen
I’m Nina Hastings, and I’m Windy Morning’s best friend. Andy’s our other bestie, he’s the absolute sweetest guy ever. I was partnered with Andy for a project back in fourth grade when Andy first moved here. Windy and I adopted him right away and the three of us have been inseparable ever since.
I work at an investment firm as the VP of sales. It’s a stressful job, but I worked hard to get where I am. I love my job and wouldn’t give it up for anything. I have a great team and I’m pretty proud of them.
I don’t have a boyfriend, even though most everyone assumes that Andy and I are together. We’re not, like I said before he’s like my brother and I don’t date siblings. That’s just gross. I’m waiting for the right man to come along. Someone responsible and caring. Someone that will want to build a life with me here in Gusty Rock. Definitely not someone that makes a living by risking his life and traveling all over the place to do it. That does not scream responsible husband material.
And I’m Chad Murphy. I’m apparently the irresponsible non-husband material that makes a living risking my life and traveling all over to do it that Nina mentioned. The fact that I’m always on the road is one of the reasons why I’m a confirmed bachelor for life. That and the fact that I know how fragile life is. I don’t want to build a life with someone with the threat of one or both of us dying and leaving behind a child to fend for themselves.
You see, I lost my entire family in one drunken car accident. My parents were coming home from my brother’s art show and were hit head-on by a drunken maniac driving way too fast on a dark winding road.
Which really makes my uncle’s drinking problem that he picked up because of that accident so much worse. He lost his family to drunkenness so he starts drinking. I don’t get it, and it makes me very angry. Even more angry than the fact that he spent my inheritance on that drinking problem before I was old enough to claim it.
Which, by the way, is why I do the job that I do. I couldn’t go to school because my uncle used my college money to get wasted. So I was left with piecing together a career I could live off of without the help of an education.
So yeah, I make a living by taking adrenaline junkies on dangerous adventures. But I am extremely careful doing it. Safety is the name of the game. You can do dangerous things safely. That’s what I teach all my clients.
I’m friends with Sunny Morning. We became friends in grade school and have been friends ever since. He’s a great guy and I couldn’t be happier for him. He just married a great girl named Calla Lily. Yeah, that’s her real name. I actually introduced them by bringing Cali to his game night. I met her at a crowded diner by slipping into her booth and she let me stay. We became friends, and when she told me that she was headed for my hometown I just knew that I had to introduce her to my buddy.
So that’s me, I’m the guy that lost everything but does what I can to make the best of it. I’m a confirmed bachelor for life because I refuse to bring innocent children into the world when the chance I could be taken away is too high. I won’t leave them to fend for themselves or with a relative that will ruin their life. Been there, done that, learned my lesson. If it’s not guaranteed that I will be able to keep them safe then I won’t risk it.
