So much attention has been given to people recovering from being in relationships with partners who have an avoidant attachment style or who have narcissistic tendencies. But to focus attention on the people themselves who suffer from this type of attachment problem is an area that is just beginning to receive attention in the mental health literature. As a therapist working with many people who have these avoidant tendencies, I know how hard it is to help them, and how much they struggle to feel safe and secure in a relationship. So I'm happy to come across this guide and workbook as it offers an approachable framework for understanding the problem and some very basic beginning strategies for recovery. It won't take the place of good attachment therapy (with a trauma focus) but it will get you started on your healing journey with support and encouragement, The audiobook is especially nice to have along with the paperback. Highly recommend!

I love this book! I didn’t even realize how avoidant I’d become in relationships until this book called me out. It helped me connect the dots between my past and all the walls I’ve built. It also gave me some pretty cool ways to work through it without making me feel broken. I now feel like I'll be able to start having conversations instead of shutting down or running. I have been so tired of keeping people at arm’s length for such a long time, and now I have an awesome book to guide me through it.
