  • I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 2nd of February, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We go straight to the Gospel of Mark 9:50. Jesus says:

Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavour, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”

The Lord says we have got to be salty. We have to be people who are making an impact in a world that has no more life in it. They tell me there are certain parts of the world, up in North Africa, where salt is almost worth more than gold. You see, you can’t live without salt just like you can’t live without water, and I want to say to you, we need to be salty today. There’s no good being bland and tasteless. We’ve got no excuse. If Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour we should be extremely salty because people need to know that there’s hope in God.

With my Scottish roots, my mother and father both born and bred in Scotland, the national dish is porridge. That’s what I was brought up on, but I want to tell you something about porridge, if there is no salt in that porridge, you cannot eat it. It is absolutely tasteless. We really need to be salty because if the salt loses its flavour, it’s got nothing and is of no value to anyone.

I want to say to you, we need to make a difference wherever we are going. Spend time each day with God. He will make you salty. He’ll give you a reason to get up in the morning. He’ll give you a reason to tell people, “Yes there is hope and He’s coming very soon”. And I want to tell you wherever Jesus went He was extremely salty, wasn’t He? Wherever the Lord went, it was either a revival or it was riot, but I tell you what, He made an impact and He’s telling us, you and I, to do the same thing.

We need to make that difference. Let’s be salty today!
    Jesus bless you and goodbye.
