About this listen

In the waning days of World War II, Hitler gave his diary to a young aide for safekeeping. Now it's threatening to resurface, with explosive contents: the details of a meeting between emissaries of Hitler and Roosevelt to reach an armistice and turn their collective efforts against the Soviet Union. The American representative: a close relative of none other than the current President, Jake Cazalet. Powerful enemies of Cazalet will do anything to get their hands on that diary, and it is up to White House operative Blake Johnson, together with his colleague in British intelligence, Sean Dillon, to make sure they don't.

Filled with hairpin twists and high-tension action, with characters as dark and surprising as any he has created, this is Higgins working at the peak of his powers.

Wonderful book

Loved this one! The back story of the Baron was great! As usual Sean gets it done (with a little help from his friends!)

A Bit Weak

Unlike Angel of Death, Thunder Point and the other books of the "Sean Dillion series", this book didn't grab my attention. It seemed that Higgins rehashed the plots and rolled them into a new book.

If you a fan of the characters then you might enjoy it but if you've never heard/read any of Jack Higgins' works then I suggest trying one of his other books.

Once again Sean Dillon saves the day

Would you try another book from Jack Higgins and/or Patrick Macnee?

Yes from Jack Higgins, no from Patrick Macnee.

What didn’t you like about Patrick Macnee’s performance?

all of his characters sounded the same. Sometimes you weren't sure who was speaking. So sad for a Sean Dillon suspense.

Did Bad Company inspire you to do anything?

Hold out for a new Sean Dillon novel with Michael Page as narrator.

Terrible narration

I love listening to audible when I'm driving, but the guy that narrated this book made me wince. Absolutely impossible to carry on listening and I tried a few times!

worst ever narration, it was so bad it hurt!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Was the worst narration ever. So bad, i laughed at first and now it pains me to listen. his off timing tones and randomness was just unbelievable. This is the first bad review i have ever done for anything, but it was that bad...

If you’ve listened to books by Jack Higgins before, how does this one compare?

yes. i love almost every book so ,far and ever narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Patrick Macnee’s performances?

NEVER, in fact i will avoid them

Higgins has written better

Higgins can spin a great WWII yarn, but this is not one of them and the reader doesn't help matters. After 2 hours I decided there were better books on this website and I stopped listening altogether...
