About this listen

A daredevil pilot in the famed 352nd Fighter Squadron, the author of this remarkable memoir bailed out of his burning Mustang two days after D-Day and was launched on a thrilling adventure on the ground in Occupied France.

After months living and fighting with the French Resistance, Fahrenwald was captured by the Wehrmacht, interrogated as a spy, and interned in a POW camp-and made a daring escape just before his deportation to Germany. Nothing diminished this pilot's talent for spotting the ironic humor in even the most aggravating or dangerous situations - nor his penchant for extracting his own improvised and sometimes hilarious version of justice.

A suspenseful World War II account and an outrageously witty tale of daring and friendship, this book brings to vivid life the daily bravery, mischief, and intrigues of fighter pilots, Resistance fighters, and other Allies in the air and on the ground.

Great storytelling

Real and authentic, classic American story. Delivery was compelling and very well done. I did not want the book to end.

An Audiobook Masterpiece

Absolutely captivating story backed by the best narration I’ve ever heard. I was on the edge of my seat each time the author was approached by German soldiers. I couldn’t stop listening. Narration is the best I’ve ever heard. Mr. Corey M. Snow adds incredible depth with scores of convincing and entertaining voices. Truly outstanding audiobook.

Unbelievable

I really had trouble accepting all the close calls and the average German soldier being as dumb as a box of rocks.

Best WWII book ever!!

I can't even tell you how much I loved this book!! The author is so good that I believed that it had to be written by someone else but I personally know the author's Niece and she assured me that it was written by her Uncle Ted. His descriptions are incredible and incredibly sad and scary. What our soldiers went through, I am so sorry and so grateful. You will never regret purchasing this. it's one that I will definitely listen to again. The only thing that bothered me was the narrator was pretty bad at the accents but very easy to overlook.

A Different Perspective

Boy it’s sure good that Ted’s daughter had this book published. I have read numerous WWII books and none from the perspective of escape and evasion to this degree.
Also, not in such a hilarious manner, which is astonishing given the gravity of the situations he faced. Quite a character. It’s a must read.

Great Hangar Tale

Yarns that will peg a bullshitometer are a grand tradition among aviators. I'm joyed to see that wonderful tradition was passed from father to daughter here.

Great!

This is probably one of the few books I would suggest be consumed exclusively through audio. The accent and inflection adds so much character.

Also, it’s an amazing story!

Very enjoyable

Overall very enjoyable. The narrator overdid the "southern/hillbilly" accent a bit I thought but on a book like this hard to know if it was in fact the author's real manner of speech. The story held my attention. Definitely a member of the greatest generation. Interesting to hear a first hand account of what went on and of the bravery of ordinary French peoples who find themselves in a very extraordinary situation.

Breathtaking adventures!

What made the experience of listening to Bailout Over Normandy the most enjoyable?

1) The events that happened. Nobody from today's World can possibly make up a story as thrilling as this one, let alone imagine that it actually happened to real people.
2) The language. I could listen to anything being talked about in such manner for hours.
3) The narrator - he has a fantastic voice, and great acting skills.

What other book might you compare Bailout Over Normandy to and why?

"Thumult in the clouds" by James Goodson

What about Corey M. Snow’s performance did you like?

His accent and voice acting skills. Too bad it's obvious he doesn't speak a word of French, and does an atrocious job of trying to pronounce the numerous French words in the story. 5 stars, nonetheless.

Awesome story

They offered this book for free on audible so I gave it a try and what a great adventure I finished it in the day and a half. I can’t believe every thing at this guy went through to get back to his squadron.
