Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Wonderful fun
The performances were well done. It was a fun listen. Laura Linney reminded me so much of Jane Fonda. Nice to listen to a story with a happy ending...

Perfect time killer.
Lightweight comedy for sure, but great acting makes it a fun and easy listen.
Just the right length for a long commute. A fun and easy listen.
Just remember, it was written in the early 60's. If you didn't know then Corie/Laura Linney's answer, when asked what she does for a living should give you a clue. ;)

Cute, dated rom-com play
This dated Neil Simon romantic comedy play felt a bit dated. Written in the early 60's, it feels a bit sexist, but I did enjoy it as a cute period piece. Good reading made it a fun listen. It made for a very pleasant 2 hour car ride. You get the traditional gender stereotypes clashing in the two newlyweds. If you can get by that, you might enjoy this light weight fun piece. I did.

Too be young and silly again.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
So it isn't as good as actually seeing the play in person but it is better than just reading the script.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Corrie. To live life with passion and feeling. Don't we all wish we had the courage to? If her character works the play works.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely, It is a play and can be easily listened too in one go. More importantly it can be listened to again and again whenever the days are short and the snow is coming into you life through the skylight. It will melt away the blues.

Short, cute comedy. Great performance.
STORY (comedy) - I didn't see the movie, but I know it was a big hit for Neil Simon. It's the story of newlyweds (Paul and Cory, his dingy wife) who are faced with multiple shortcomings in their first apartment as well as visits from zany neighbors and the mother-in-law. Things get so crazy that they actually consider divorce after only six days of marriage!
PERFORMANCE - I suppose this is the recording of a live play, as it has multiple voices and live applause. Excellent portrayals of crazy characters in crazier situations.
OVERALL - Recommended for anyone looking for a short, light break between longer books. I don't think it's worth the normal price and definitely not worth a credit, but it's worth a shot if you can catch it on the Daily Deal like I did. No cursing or sex, though there are some mildly suggestive conversations.

Great
This was thoroughly enjoyable and far too short. The cast was fantastic and perfect for this Neil Simon's timeless story.

Good performances, old style of humour
This is a classic Neil Simon comedy - the humour is a little dated and cliched now, but there's enough light-heartedness and fun that it's not a big deal. Great performances too. I've been listening to more LATW plays - they are a nice break between my longer audiobooks.

A delightful Comedy!
Barefoot in the Park is a delight! I have the movie starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford and I have watched it dozens of times. This recording of the play was fairly spot on, however, the movie adds more visual scenes.
Having seen the movie, I found the performances of the actors in the play to be similar. I know Neil Simon would be proud!
If you like the play, I encourage you to see the movie as well. It's a perfect compliment!
