About this listen
Things are about to get serious for Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, in the next entry in the number one New York Times and number one Sunday Times best-selling Dresden Files.
Harry has faced terrible odds before. He has a long history of fighting enemies above his weight class. The Red Court of vampires. The fallen angels of the Order of the Blackened Denarius. The Outsiders.
But this time it's different. A being more powerful and dangerous on an order of magnitude beyond what the world has seen in a millennium is coming. And she's bringing an army. The Last Titan has declared war on the city of Chicago and has come to subjugate humanity, obliterating any who stand in her way.
Harry's mission is simple but impossible: save the city by killing a Titan. And the attempt will change Harry's life, Chicago and the mortal world forever.

Since time immemorial the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace. Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy's shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels.

Story
Kell is one of the last Travelers - magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes. As such, he can choose where he lands. There's Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there's Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. There's White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.

Story
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

On second thoughts
I disliked this book on first read / listen, which may have been the sign of how well read and construct it was, my emotions were so tweaked I had to dismiss the story. Now on second read all the shocks from what happen are less real and I can see this a great story well read and worth a credit because you should give it more than one read.

Dresden is back!
Yay! The Harry Dresden I know is back. I generally enjoy the check mate situations that he finds himself in. Sometimes I think Mark Butcher really hates Harry, but I guess he has his reasons.
Some of the battle scenes reminded me of Dragon Ball Z.
Overall it produces the same journey I experience with a Harry Dresden book. Now the wait for the next one. Hopefully it will not take as long as peace talks 🤞🏻

Great as always
I've come to expect high quality from dresden books. The narrator is doing a phenomenal job in conveying emotions throughout the book. I feel that this installment of the dresden files series more than makes up for the cliffhanger of the previous book!
The emotional burden of the story is equal or higher than that of "changes" so be prepared for feels if you are that type of reader!

this is what butchers fans were waiting for...
this is what butchers fans were waiting for... but the cost of one of the main characters we have all grown to love almost as much as the main protagonist was truly a cause of much heartbreak ...

Just one tedious ADHD boss battle after another.
I'm a fan of the early Dresden Files but Battle Ground is just a monotonous sequence of one ADHD boss battle after another. There is no storyline worth the name and none of the humour that was such a hallmark of the early novels.
The trudges along from one 'fight against impossible odds' after another with every single character in the series being dredged as cannon fodder. Even the fighting spirit of Chicago is invoked like a lame tribute to Ghostbusters.
Harry should have been allowed to die with dignity four books ago.
This is just cashing in rubbish.

why?
I have been a Dresden fan for years. I was super excited to find this his latest in the series. I wish I hadn't read it. It seems to belong to another series altogether and I didn't finish it. Very disappointed and saddened.
