We thought we were alone. Oblivious to the fact that we weren’t, and we were easy pickings. Unprepared mentally and technically to survive.
The Earth Federation came into being in 2146. By 2235, however, the E.F. had founded the present Space Federation. There had been an attempt to turn it into a Galactic Space Navy and eventually create a Galactic Empire. But this was rejected, with all military operations in space banned. However, space exploration and scientific research remained its primary aims.
In the spring of 2301, the Space Federation received its latest interstellar StarShip, Andromeda, from the Starship construction facility on Mars. Andromeda was the first in a new generation of ships equipped with an upgraded warp drive, the latest weaponry, and advanced communications systems.
Now, the planning for Earth’s Galactic Empire was inevitable.

Andromeda’s first mission was:
One: To find the Starship Hawk, commissioned and sent to Procyon in Canis Major in 2290, but had disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Two: Locate the missing settler Starship Acarea, powered by the now obsolete nuclear pulse engine, and dispatched to Procyon almost two hundred years before the faster-than-light barrier was broken by the warp drive.
Three: Richardson’s final remit was to search for habitable planets in nearby star systems.
Earth’s first attempt at colonizing the stars was to have been, ‘The Great Adventure.’ However, by now, most people believed it would have been virtually impossible to have habitable planets with this type of binary star. So, it was a mystery why Acarea had been sent to Procyon instead of Alpha Centauri. Even so, the disappearance of this ship was perhaps the greater mystery of the two.

On finding Hawk holed and hanging derelict in space, Richardson feared this could start a bitter interstellar war? If so, with only two more Starships currently being built for the Space Federation, the odds are stacked against Andromeda and Earth to survive such a war.
