About this listen

Sparks fly in Louisiana’s Butterfly Bayou when a Hollywood starlet falls for a local deputy in a new small-town contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake.

After leaving the military, Major Blanchard moved to Papillon, Louisiana, to be with his aging father, where he’s taken a deputy position with the sheriff’s department. Now that he’s settling into life on the bayou, he’s trying out the dating scene. Every single woman in town seems to be pining after the handsome newcomer. But so far, nothing’s worked out, and he’s had some spectacularly bad dates. Major’s getting ready to give up on love when a new lady roars into town to film a movie and turns his world upside down.

Actress Brynn Pearson is trying to make a successful transition from child star to leading lady. Now that she’s landed her first lead in a major film, nothing can stop her. She is committed to focusing solely on her work, so romance is the last thing she needs. Too bad she can’t get her mind off the dreamy deputy she keeps running into. He’s gorgeous, and something about him makes her feel safe. As Brynn’s feelings for Major deepen, she starts to wonder if maybe there’s more to life than her career.

When a family crisis throws Major’s life into a tailspin, he turns to Brynn for support and hopes the relationship growing between them will shine brighter than Hollywood lights.

I am at the point with this series (and this author) that it is a no-brainer for me to click the "Buy" button the moment I see a new book in this series. I have found that I love anything that Lexi Blake writes and this series is no different.

We have been introduced to the small quaint town of Papillion, Louisiana in the prior 4 books and this book continues the trend of an outside character coming into town and feeling like a fish out of water. This small town is pretty crazy with all kinds of quirks like the town alligator "Otis" and a gossip line that is faster that Wi-Fi.

This story is a little different in the fact that this time we have the female MC is a famous actress who is in town to be filming a movie. We also got to meet the male MC - a police officer named Major Blanchard - who has moved to Butterfly Bayou to take care of a sick father. I'm sure we have met him in previous books, but I didn't actually remember him. That wasn't a problem though because I ended up liking him immediately as he is introduced to us after he attempts to rescue his dog from a bog and ends up stuck.

Our female MC - Brynn -rides to the rescue and in the process of him getting unstuck from the mud - he loses his sweatpants. Then, to top it off, the event is captured on a wildlife camera and goes viral. This is another cute story with two MC's who are immediately attracted to each other but have to deal with crazy circumstances if they want to get together.

This was another winner for me and as always, the narrator - Jessica Almasy - knocks it out of the park and has become the voice of the series for me. It is always wonderful to be able to come back and get to see other characters that we have met and liked before and that is always a favorite part of this series for me.

Now I'm ready and waiting for the next book!

I’m always sad when they’re over

I love my pretend life in Butterfly Bayou. This series is so endearing and fun. It’s nice to listen to something a little lighter once in awhile, especially something that takes place in such a magical place. Jessica Almasy is just so dang talented I can hardly believe it. She’s absolutely perfection in this series.

Run Brian Run!

The pace was a little slow but the story was heartwarming and loving. FMC could have stood up for herself more instead of being Ms. Perfect but even that trait lended to the story. Overall good story readying for Ali’s book.

Lexi Blake is perfection!

So, I'm a Lexi Blake fan. I'm not even going to pretend that I don't see any of her books from her Bliss, Sirens, Masters & Mercenaries or Butterfly Bayou series and automatically purchase without a care in the world what the summary says. It's like the TikTok with someone slamming their credit card down begging their money be taken. That was me when she was writing as Sophie Oak and that's definitely me now because she is AMAZING!

The threads of chaos and humor that run like wild currents through her stories are MY catnip. I could go on and on about the many times I've made a mistake of taking a drink while reading her material and instantly regretted it because I had spewed it out in laughter. Seriously, she's hilarious and it often sneaks up on you.

But the perfection is the way she has so captured the flavor of the different places she's set her stories. You feel that small Texas town with absolute accuracy in her Siren books and even with the crossover from the M&M and Bliss books, you FEEL the difference in the people and place between Dallas and that quirky Colorado mountain town. But by God, her Butterfly Bayou series has been absolute balm for my poor displaced Cajun soul. There is a special level of crazy that tastes like home. If you were to drive into Louisiana from Texas, you'd find small towns off of I-10 with water towers and rice dryers and, the further you drove, not only would the accents deepen, so would the crazy. God love my people but the couillon runs deep. Anyway, these stories bring me so much joy.

I really like the narrator. No, she's not Ryan West (I've previously waxed on about that man's Cajun accent... yummy) but she's got really good timing. The only reason I didn't give her a 5 was because Lisa Guidry and her sister Lila are Texan, not bayou girls and Major was from Houston, also not Cajun. I know my accent comes back when I go home so I tried to chalk it up to them living there for a while but still. Otherwise, great performance.

Sweet Sweethearts

I absolutely love the characters and how everyone (well some of them) continues to grow. Having Major meet his sweetheart and witnessing their story just adds to my love for this community and the characters who inhabit it.

Best one yet!!!

This was a truly great story. a story of change, growing up and of realizing what was really important. It touched on real issues, the pain of loosing a loved one and finding your love. I hope the author continues on this path
