Nik Granjer knows they're lying about the Bug. Sure, it was the Bug that wiped out more than 90 percent of humanity 100 years ago, but that's ancient history. The Bug has to be gone by now.
Except everyone thinks the Bug still kills anyone whose heart rate goes over 140 beats per minutes. That is why the prime administrator gave citizens the Papas - digital wrist monitors that knock people out when their heart rate gets too high. The Papas saved the last of humanity.
But one night after curfew, on the border of New Frisko, Nik tampers with his Papa with terrible consequences. And when a brutal, high-tech enforcement squad from the city shows up, Nik goes on the run.
Outcast and desperate for allies, Nik's only hope is to unearth the truth about the prime administrator and the origin of the Bug. And stay alive in the process. If he fails, he could be the only witness to the final extinction of humanity.

Dystopian Whiz-kid Epic adventure.
Smart kid takes down a big-brother world.
A great addition to the apocalyptic genre for young adults. I look forward to the other Adventures the author has in store for the characters.

Action packed-
I often listen to audio books to help me go to sleep. That was a mistake with this book. Jared Garrett pours adrenaline into this novel from cover to cover.

So fun!
I teach a high school literacy class made up of about 20 sixteen and seventeen year old students. We chose BEAT as our class novel. It captivated me and my students. I think we'll be fighting over who gets to check the sequel out of the library first. Thank you, Jared, for transporting us to another world.

Lots and Lots of action!
I was hoping for a fun, smart story and I was quite impressed. The narrator did a surprisingly good job and carried the story really well. if you're considering getting this book, do it!

Excellent Book!
A great original sci-fi / post-apocalyptic/ dystopian novel. It is thrilling with excellent pacing and story development. If you enjoyed Hunger Games, Divergent, etc. you will enjoy this book!

Now I know why it was on Sale! Don't do it!
This is the first book that I did not finish. I gave up after 1 hour. Truly painfull narration, could have not been worse! I have missed out on how it got 4 stars from others.
