About this listen

When a wormhole failure sends geneticist Dr. Osric Rhendall one billion years into Earth’s past, he becomes the sole survivor of humanity’s most ambitious spacefaring mission. Trapped aboard the terraforming ship Daedalus One with a stubborn AI, Osric faces an impossible question: what to do when you’re the only soul in the solar system?

Driven by a desire to give meaning to his isolation, Osric begins to remake Earth from scratch. One ecosystem at a time. One species at a time. From engineered algae to bioluminescent canines. His obsession begins to reshape other planets too—until the space between man and God blurs.

Spanning millions of years and dozens of worlds, Before Stars Had Names is a haunting descent into madness, exploring the loneliness of creation and the legacy of playing God. But even Gods must face their creations... and reckon with the choices they’ve made.

Perfect for fans of Project Hail Mary, We Are Legion, or Annihilation, this story is both intimate and cosmic, inspiring and terrifying.

I enjoyed and was intrigued by the story line. A solitary genetic scientist alone in space, with all of human technology. What if, he creates biological life, then implants it? The spaceship AI can only share it may not be better just different.
Clever writing and potential for more of the story. Great!

I enjoyed the premise of this book, most sci-fi talks about the future, but this is a good twist with the distant past. I would be excited to learn more about this universe!
