About this listen

Here's a collection of essays and letters from the pen of one of America's shrewdest observers of human nature. During his lifetime, Benjamin Franklin was a successful publisher, printer, author, scientist, inventor, and diplomat. This collection of letters and essays illuminates Franklin's views on the subjects of marriage, savages, cold air baths, and a variety of other topics. The recording includes "Choice of a Mistress," "Reflections on Love and Marriage," "Early Marriages," "Treaty with A Lady," "Polly Baker," "Ephemera," "Apology for Printers," "Politeness of Savages," "On Wine," "Emigrants," "Cold Air Baths," and "Otium cum Dignatate."

Editorial reviews

Benjamin Franklin earned his place in history as a man of accomplishment in the disparate fields of diplomacy, science, publishing, and technological innovation. He also left his mark as a writer, as demonstrated in his volume of letters and essays, On Love, Marriage, and Other Matters.

In this collection, Franklin speaks about a range of subjects including marriage, wine, and cold air baths. In "Choice of a Mistress", Franklin speaks candidly about his fondness for the "gentler sex". In "Polly Baker", he fights for gender equality in a story about a woman condemned for having a child out of wedlock.

With a deep resonant voice, Adrian Cronauer uses the right mix of gravitas and approachability to bring to life the words of an American legend.

Benjamin Franklin's thoughts on important matters

I found the advice given to be good at any time. Advice to a friend wanting to know things to consider in selecting a wife and keeping a good relationship through out the marriage to ring true no matter when read. With many other bits of wisdom given I find this book very enjoyable.
