Publisher's summary
An assignment on a backwater world turns deadly for a combat vet and her AI tank. Military SF with heart and humor from up-and-coming author Marisa Wolf.
Sometimes the only way forward is to burn it all down.
Talinn Reaze and Bee serve as “Breezy,” part of the United Colonial Force’s elite Artificial Intelligence Troops. Trained for full integration since before Talinn’s birth, they exceeded expectations and became one of the premier heavy tanks, leading assaults on several fronts of the long war against the Interstellar Defense Corps.
When they’re thrown to a backwater base without cause, boredom becomes their main enemy—until the world falls out from under their treads and they begin to question everything they’ve ever known.
As they orient to their new reality, they have a decision to make: Uphold the status quo, or risk burning civilization to the ground?
Talinn and Bee always did have a fondness for fire.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

A jaded thief and an idealistic archaeologist form an unlikely partnership to solve an ancient mystery. Opposed at every turn by unknown forces, their journey takes them across 1880s Egypt in search of a lost temple to the other side of the universe, where magic is all too real. The world in which we live is full of technological marvels. Information is at your fingertips and as a species, we have reached a peak because of our creativity and inventiveness. What would happen to our society if this technological marvel was stripped away from us, and we were left to figure things out on our own. Jon Ryan has some unfinished business. Since he caused the universe to reboot, well, he can't seem to find his wife of two billion years. That's one great big oops. He also can't find the massive time ship Aramthella and her human crew. Double oops. And then there's the matter of not knowing whey why there are several copies of key people in the new reality he must navigate. Triple oops. He actually knows one whole heck of a lot less about his current situation than seems healthy. But he's Jon Ryan, former fighter pilot turned android warrior for humankind.

Story
Multiverse travel is finally possible, but there’s just one catch: No one can visit a world where their counterpart is still alive. Enter Cara, whose parallel selves happen to be exceptionally good at dying—from disease, turf wars, or vendettas they couldn’t outrun. Cara’s life has been cut short on 372 worlds in total. On this dystopian Earth, however, Cara has survived. Identified as an outlier and therefore a perfect candidate for multiverse travel, Cara is plucked from the dirt of the wastelands.

Wow. Just. Wow.
This review will be difficult for me to codify. Usually, I'm really good at figuring out what's coming and where an author is going with a story.
Not this time. The primary characters were just alien enough, and the action chaotic enough, and the plot twisting enough, that I never managed to get on top of everything to predict where it was going.
Most certainly a wild ride.
Not a spoiler, but the ending is good enough to please a "Human Wave" fan such as myself.
Also, while the ending of this story is properly satisfying if she doesn't want to do more here, she left herself plenty of room to create more in this world. I find that I am anticipating seeing what she will do.
kind if like the protagonist. At very few points could I anticipate her next action.
So.
Do Recommend.
The Bubba likes it.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
