About this listen

An SBS Gurkha soldier's account of how his tough Nepali upbringing and the lessons learned in his army life enabled his record-breaking conquest of all 14 of the world's 8,000m peaks in under seven months. What happens when ambition meets limitless imagination?

Enter Project Possible: a seemingly unreachable goal to climb all 14 'death zone' mountains in record time. The previous record was seven years, 10 months and six days.

I did it in six months.

This is the inside story of my incredible adventure. As a kid in Nepal, barefoot in the mountains, I developed the resilience I needed to later join the Gurkhas, one of the most fearless forces in the British Army. Then in the Special Boat Service I served in some of the world's most dangerous warzones.

But my next challenge was even more of a test.

In Beyond Possible I reveal how I conquered the world's most dangerous peaks, breaking several world records in the process. With my elite training, I was able to adapt quickly to the lethal conditions, rarely phased by the lung-burning temperatures or brutal winds. Fear became irrelevant because I had belief.

In the death zone, I came alive. But even after facing countless challenges, right at the peak of my achievements, my world fell apart when my mother was hospitalised.

But I survived and ultimately conquered the most deadly and hostile mountains on the planet. Beyond Possible is my story.

Amazing achievement but an average writing

The actual story is fantastic, phenomenal, crazy, humongous, great beyond description. The distance between the book (reasonably well written) and the immense weight of the achievement is like comparing a reasonable peak in Alps with K2... There are big opportunities lying ahead and I truly hope that a next writing attempt (maybe using a professional writing assistance) will be able to take advantage. Maybe while adding the first recently achieved K2 by winter climb?
The character himself, Nims, is bigger than life and he deserves a much, much better story telling.

One of the greatest adventure and survival biographies I have ever read.

I am a huge fan of biographies, particularly adventure and survival biographies because they put any of my own perceived struggles firmly in place.

I first became aware of Nims in summer 2019 when his photo of the huge line at the Hillary step on Everest went viral (second photo).

He was in the middle of a mission to climb the highest 14 peaks in the world in 7 months. The record at that time was 7 years.

The book is his *remarkable* story.

The suffering described is tremendous. What I found particularly gripping were the rescue stories when he and his team came across people who had been left for dead on the mountains along the way.

It's absolutely incredible.

To top it off, three weeks ago, he and his team climbed K2 in winter, which had never been done before. For his party trick, he revealed he did it without oxygen (third photo).

I don't want to spoil things, so I'll shut up. Buy the book — you won't regret it.

Nims, much respect. I hope your inspirational story goes far and wide and the Nepalese climbing community gets the recognition they deserve. 🙏🏻🤙🏻

Inspiring for 2022

Far more details than Netflix documentary covering more on the process and challenges.

An incredible story of the power of positive mindset, team work, adaptability, being guided by values and hard f*cking work. Hats off to pushing boundaries of human potential - not just physically, mentally but of the human spirit. Pride to the under-appreciated, unrecognised people and cultures like sherpas that don’t self promote much but enable the feats of others
