About this listen

"You make me forget everything else.

Luke Collier knows his duty. A marine corps combat medic, his job is to save lives - not satisfy his own desires. Megan Trayhern is his corpsman, but the beautiful redhead can't be anything more. Luke has already given his heart once, and he understands the toll the corps can take on a woman, on a romance…on a marriage.

Megan has her own mission. While she doles out medical care in the nearby village, she's also gathering intel. It's a dangerous assignment that the onetime military brat undertakes without fear. She needs to focus - and be careful - and the growing passion she feels for Luke can only put them both at risk. Honor binds them both, but the heart gives its own orders....

Must Love Author

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I purchased due to Ms Zackman as the reader. She is great and can bring a simple story to life. Must use new 1.25x speed to get author intent.

If you’ve listened to books by Lindsay McKenna before, how does this one compare?

I purchase 3 books from this author without having listened to 1, big mistake, but I love Ms Zackman reads, so I purchased. This book has a good sweet flavor of the medics overseas who have to tough it out. It is brutal in Afghanistan. Risk Taker, is another of author's books which must be listened with new 1.25x speed. These are not FSOG type love stories, but they are entertaining. Try to get the on the 50% sale.

Have you listened to any of Gabra Zackman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Ms Zackman does an excellent job of this book. Her male voices are her best value as not many women can pull it off. She joins Natalie Ross, Angela Dawe, Karen White, and the late great Ms Anna Fields.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

If this were a movie, yes, it would play well.

Any additional comments?

If you like this author, try Anne E. Wilson's Hover, read by Angela Dawe. This is the best read that makes you laugh out loud, especially on Wog Day.

Not much action, but a sweet story

The writer does an adequate job describing life on a base in Afghanistan, but doesn't include much on combat tactics or action-filled scenes (after all, you can't judge a book by its cover). The two love interests are very sweet and honest. If you are looking for hot love scenes, you won't find them in this book. Sweetness and kindness in trying times is the overriding theme of this story.

The writing is pedestrian in that the story's plot is constructed well, but without twists and with a sappy ending; in addition, the sentences are written competently, but much of the dialog is not realistic. The narrator's style fit the writer's style perfectly, i.e. adequate.

If you like tame, predictable, and happy stories (nothing wrong with that), you will love this book.

military females!

I did like this book because I have never seen anyone right about a female Corpsman! that was amazing because I was one. I wish I had half of the opportunities that the characters in this story had. however the dialogue was definitely not what we would actually say in the military. I understand it is to capture a more general audience but trust me there would have been a lot more cursing! haha unfortunately I really did not dig the voice actors interpretation of a lot of the male characters. the narrator can make or break an audiobook and in many instances I wasn't really convinced of the relationship because of this
