About this listen

The definitive biography of the man behind the September 11th attacks. On the eve of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, Osama bin Laden is still a vivid symbol of outrage and tragedy in the American imagination. One of the most-recognized faces of terror, bin Laden has presented himself to the world as a paragon of ascetic virtue. Journalist Adam Robinson tells a far different story. This authoritative biography lifts bin Laden’s mask of moral purity as it recounts his transformation from dissolute rich kid into terrorist mastermind. Drawing on information from members of bin Laden’s own family and extensive independent research in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Oman, Libya, and Pakistan, Robinson opens a window into the man who changed the face of global politics.

Editorial reviews

This authoritative biography of Osama Bin Laden tells the story of a man shaped not so much by Islamic doctrine as youthful transgression and excessive wealth. Born into a family which author Adam Robinson describes as the "Rockefellers of Arabia", the incorrigible Bin Laden spent his formative years in the grips of alcohol, prostitutes, and inordinate wealth. Bin Laden developed bitter personal grudges and a thirst for publicity that would ultimately lead to unthinkable death and destruction. With extensive documentary voice-over experience, Performer Fred Sanders is raw and to-the-point in this chilling account of the terrorist mastermind. Robinson's extensive research provides the listener firsthand accounts from Bin Laden family members and traces the Taliban leader's path of terror throughout the Middle East and Northern Africa.

A book on Bin Laden

A book on Bin Laden, how good could it be ? Well it gave a deep look into how a sack of shit it built. It made the boogey man into a person. It answered a lot of questions for me and helps paint a picture of how the worlds most tragic day came to be. Worth the listen, and likely a re-listen.
