The heart usually comes up in a Biology course. After all, it is one the most important organs; it constantly maintains life through the circulation of blood to the respiring cells. It also though, comes up a lot in people's lives; unfortunately this often takes the form of heart disease, your own, or someone you love or know. Quite a lot of people have trouble understanding how the heart works, it is a miracle of engineering and structural design and it takes a bit of effort to get to grips with it. What I want to do in this short book is explain clearly how the heart works and why this design is so effective. I also want to describe and explain the common diseases of the heart; coronary heart disease and atrial fibrillation, to make them clear to anyone who is or was affected by them. Of course, while I am going to get you to look at it from a biological viewpoint but I am also going to try and use everyday language so anyone; whether or not they study Biology; can understand the way it all works. I hope this book helps you and inspires you. I think understanding the heart and its common diseases is important for most people nowadays; after all, it might encourage us to take preventative action that could lengthen our healthy lives and those of our loved ones. Anyway, the heart really is a wonder, take a look in this book with me and I am sure you will agree. Biological Sciences Biology Physical Illness & Disease Science
