The Church of God in Christ (COGIC), the first major denomination to spring from the fires of the Azusa Street revival, profoundly affected the history of the black church. Its tremendous influence can be traced to the dynamic spiritual life of its founder, Charles Harrison Mason. The son of a slave and a leader in the holiness movement of his day, Mason traveled to Azusa Street in 1907 where he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Bishop C H Mason book review

I am a third generation member of The Church of God in Christ. I was so excited when my mother told me that she once had the opportunity to see Bishop Mason. Since the early 80's I have been researching the roots of the early Black Pentecostal Movement. Starting with the life of William Seymour, Azusa Street Revival, and the history of the COGIC. I am so sorry to report that some of the racism against Black Christians back then are still happening today in 2024.
