for quick refreshing on basic studies

Not bad for beginners, but a little too redundant compared to Mark's other titles. It spends too much time repeating numbers and basic vocabulary without the right contextual dialog to keep your attention and form solid applicable memorization (meaning it's easier to memorize something in a story type context and this program jumps around a little too much to give you those connections). This is a good introductory program for quick refreshing on your studies if you use it as a compliment to another basic program. Mark's Accelerated Language Program is my favorite, and his Sentence Magic is the other that i constantly use as an intermediate student. Mark Frobose's programs are efficient for intermediate levels but Bite Sized Chinese was just too basic and redundant, and i just breezed through the whole thing in barely over an hour and learned very little. Pimsluer is very good for beginners as each lesson spends an appropriate 30-45 minutes teaching realistic dialog, and Mark Frobose is good for faster, more engaging study and thus works well for medium level speakers, and the accelerated and sentence magic are both really good at that, and will also work for beginners too. Beginners might just find themselves repeating sections more to memorize them.

Learned so much!

I'm biracial, my dad is white and my mom is Taiwanese. Hearing my Mom's family rattle off Chinese while I didn't get it finally got to me. This aodiobook has gotten me so far! I still have far to go, but this has been a great beginning!

Really Effective!

This was the third audio book I’ve tried and have found it to be the most effective so far (the first two were by other authors). It repeats and breaks things down so you can get it down to memory, and has useful phrases for communicating. I even had a coworker who is a native mandarin speaker comment that my pronunciation was pretty good! I’m looking forward to trying the other audio books by Mark Frobose, due to his effective and user friendly language instruction methods! My only suggestion is that he make more “bite sized” audio books for mandarin at higher levels! Though I have yet to try the sentence magic and advanced mandarin audio books...

Works Well

I use it in addition to Pimsleur. I likes these little Chinese programs by Mark Frobose because they are similar to the concept of Pimsleur. Also, I like them because the repetition is much faster than with Pimsleur, however, both programs are great tools to learn Mandarin fast and efficiently. You will actually remember what you study after listening and repeating it several times.

A Few Lessons and I'm Speaking to Chinese Waitress

Bite-Sized Mandarin Chinese takes a very difficult tonal language and totally demystifies the learning of it. Makes learning to speak Mandarin Chinese surprisingly simple. Extremely engaging native Mandarin speaker and a knowledgeable American instructor put me at ease and talked me through a very difficult language and made it simple. “Bite-Sized” is an appropriate title. A language so ‘foreign’ to Westerners has to be ingested a bite at a time. The learner won’t choke on the bites in “Bite-Sized Mandarin Chinese.”

This audio program is about learning simple phrases and using them to ask and answer common questions. The material is not extremely complicated, just the stuff that’s necessary for basic communication. The pronunciation of some of the words was so difficult in the beginning that I was frankly surprised that by about the third lesson my pronunciation was getting more precise. Distinguishing sounds and tones got easier with each lesson.

I don’t have the time or the inclination to become a super fluent speaker of Chinese. But I got a kick out of learning some basic Mandarin Chinese and a sort of ego boost from the confidence this course gave me that if I wanted to, really wanted to, I could eventually learn to speak this language pretty well. It’s just a matter of practice. Listen and Repeat. Listen and Repeat. I now feel confident enough to approach my next Chinese waitress with a few greetings and even order some hot tea, not at all bad for a few days of practice with a very entertaining program.

Very useful and impressive learning experience!

Would you listen to Bite-Sized Mandarin Chinese in Ten Minutes a Day again? Why?

Yes of-course, I would listen to bite-sized mandarin Chinese because, It helped me a lot to learn and improve my long term desire of learning a mandarin Chinese.

I got a lot of business requirements, where I need to understand and speak Chinese. I had to leave major opportunities before learning Chinese through bite-sized mandarin Chinese, but now it will not happen in future because I am very confident about speaking and understanding Chinese.

What did you like best about this story?

In beginning, It teaches very basic words like, please, thank you, and hello etc.. with very clear pronunciation. It helped me to identifying difference between similar pronunciation of different words. Now I can pronounce words exactly as natives.

What does Mark Frobose bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Different levels of lessons and repetition of words with clear pronunciation make it different which I won't be able to enjoy in book. Because in book you can only read words but you can not understand how are they pronounced. Encouraging words and tips given in beginning by Mark Frobose, motivated me to practice as much as I can.

Repeats

I spent an hour on learning 我是美国人。我不是中国人. When they said "new" material it was a repeat of the old stuff.
