About this listen

A dark jewel of a novella, this definitive edition of Caitlin R. Kiernan's Black Helicopters is the expanded and completed version of the World Fantasy Award-nominated original.

Just as the Signalman stood and faced the void in Agents of Dreamland, so it falls to Ptolema, a chess piece in her agency's world-spanning game, to unravel what has become tangled and unknowable.

Something strange is happening on the shores of New England. Something stranger still is happening to the world itself, chaos unleashed, rational explanation slipped loose from the moorings of the known. Two rival agencies stare across the Void at one another. Two sisters, the deadly, sickened products of experiments going back decades, desperately evade their hunters.

An invisible war rages at the fringes of our world, with unimaginable consequences and Lovecraftian horrors that ripple centuries into the future.

I loved Agents of Dreamland so I was expecting more of the same in book 2. This is not the case unfortunately. While book 1 was easy to follow, Black Helicopters is a maze. It would probably be easier to read as an actual book.

Hard to follow

twisty and turny. i wish there were more monsters but that’s a minor complaint. this is well written and thought out. playing with time and space

lovecraftian but more than that

With Black Helicopters, the second in the Tinfoil Dossier series, the weird continues in a most enjoyable way. The folks in Albany dispatched agents to New England to figure out what was happening. Honestly, I’m glad I felt compelled to listen to the first and second episodes of this series after I listened to the third episode out of order. Once again fascinating characters are introduced, and pieces of the overall story are revealed that will all come to fruition in that third episode. Justine Eyre takes on the narration duties for this episode and brings these characters to life with voices that are distinct enough you could tell who was talking after the first couple of chapters.

More fascinating Men in Black action.

Enjoyed the prose, absolutely no idea what happened in this story, very hard to follow the narrative.

Lost the plot

Too disjointed, unclear where this was heading. I decided in chapter 13 that I didn't care where it was going & gave up. Disappointed.

Should have listened to other reviews.
