About this listen

How far would you go to reset the course of your life?

After spending the last twenty-five years in prison, former professional wrestler "Bad Guy" Brian Hearns is willing to do anything for a second chance. Then he learns the truth about the dark circumstances that landed him behind bars, and an old acquaintance gives him the means to go back in time and set things right.

But can she be trusted? And is resetting the last quarter century really as simple as cutting open his skin and contacting the same demonic agents who ruined his life to begin with?

Bladejob is a novella of extreme horror and not intended for sensitive listeners.

So I have to be honest. I never would have picked up this book based on two things. I don’t care for wrestling, and I had no idea what a Bladejob was - I had to look it up! I’m saying that to say this. I really liked this story!

I had no idea what to expect when I went in other than it was most likely related to wrestling, and it was probably graphic. Both are true, but it’s a lot more than that. I found myself fully invested in Brian’s fate. I finished the book incredibly fast because I couldn’t stop listening. The narration was excellent!

Check it out!

It’s more than just wrestling!

Love mangums work, and this tale of a washed up rustler getting a second chance is near the top for me
This was only made better by Joe’s fantastic narration
If you’re looking for something, a little bizarre that isn’t afraid to get bloody, I would highly recommend this is your next listen 5stars

Bladejob is a story about a professional wrestler who serves 25 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. He’s offered a chance to go back in time to change history and right this grievous wrong, but it’s not without its pitfalls and consequences.

The main protagonist is sympathetic in that he is the victim of forces beyond his control or understanding. He wants to change the past to avert the murder, but also to restore his family life and relationships. Even when he succeeds in averting the original murder, those forces take from him in other ways. It’s a good metaphor for life in that we gain something but we may also lose something in the process. There is a second protagonist in the story as well, and it is interesting to see her grow and progress.

The story is interesting and fun to listen to, with a good balance of humor, magic and horror.

Brian Hearns, former professional wrestler, has just been released from prison after a 25 year murder sentence - one that he claims that he didn't actually commit. As he tries to settle into post prison life, he's given an opportunity to change the past and get a second chance. Is he willing to take the risk?

This was a fascinating, quick listen. I loved how it went from past to present to PAST past, going between what really happened behind the scenes of the fight that changed Brian's life forever. I never would have guessed the real reason behind it all, and I think if my husband actually read books, he would enjoy this one as he was a huge wrestling fan growing up.

I listened to the audiobook, and as always, Joe Hempel did an incredible job.
