Publisher's summary

Award-winning author Rhys Bowen marries charming storytelling with an edge-of-your-seat mystery set in early 20th-century New York City in Bless the Bride.

With Molly Murphy’s wedding to NYPD Captain Daniel Sullivan quickly approaching, the Irish P.I. heads to the Westchester County countryside, where Daniel’s mother can counsel her on a bride’s proper place. Surprisingly, Molly seems to be agreeing with her future mother-in-law’s advice. Molly promises to leave her detective work behind and settle down after becoming Daniel’s wife…but she isn’t married yet.

So when she gets word of a possible case, Molly sneaks back into the city to squeeze in a little more sleuthing before the wedding bells can ring. A wealthy Chinese immigrant wants Molly to find his missing bride. Molly has a hunch that his intended has run off. But where could she have gone - and where would she be? The only Chinese women of the era are kept under house arrest, and Molly can’t help but wonder whether she’s saving the bride-to-be from the streets…or helping to lock her away for good.

Such Fun Mysteries

I love the lightheartedness of these Molly Murphy Mysteries. I also appreciate the detail of taking us back to the early 1900s New York. The performance of this audio version was amazing!

Dependable “go-to series”

Molly Murphy Books have turned into default reads for me, which is good and bad.

Good – well, because the stories are good! I know in advance I will like them and can reach for the next installment of the series with confidence knowing I won’t be disappointed.

Bad – because I am running out of available titles!! This was Book 10 so I only have 11, 12 and 13 left (which I will blow through in no time) and then I will have to wait until the titles are released before reading more. Book 14 is only due out in 2015.

This is also how I felt when I finished all the titles in Sue Grafton’s alphabet series: going from a new title whenever the mood strikes, to waiting years between installment.

I like having a dependable “go-to series”; you’re never at a loss for something good to read!

good story

Loved it!! As usual, the story was interesting, unique and engaging. However, the author has (intentionally or unintentionally) made the perpetrator easy to figure out...usually the least talked about person in the story. although it is still a challenge to figure out the motive. love this series!!

Nail biting, endearing and frustrating

The story continues to keep you guessing, laughing and sighing as Molly refuses to compromise her values, even when it frustrates Daniel and her friends. But the world feels like a better place every time. Rhys Bowen is truly a master craftsman. 💞

Finally!

So exciting! Molly ends up in Chinatown and finds herself involved in a missing person and of course murder!

She has promised Daniel no more cases but what’s a girl to do?

Suspense, intrigue and yes the bride and groom finally make it down the aisle! Sigh

Molly Murphy is an Irish Woman to be reckoned with

What made the experience of listening to Bless the Bride the most enjoyable?

Molly gets herself into the most intriguing situations, but seems to come out unscathed. Really love Nicola Barber's Irish accent; it adds something special to the story.

What did you like best about this story?

The relationship between Molly and her friends - Syd & Gus is precious. They were truly best friends to Molly frequently supporting her with encouragement and good food.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was hard to stop listening, my life kept getting in the way. This is a book that can be listened to in one sitting (if you have the time) because it's hard to find a stopping point.

Any additional comments?

For some reason, I've gotten this series out of order, but it doesn't really matter to me because I really love Molly and her adventures.

Provides thoughtful reflection

Initially, I became annoyed with Molly’s constantly waffling back and forth ‘’Do I want to be a wife or not.” Then’ after some reflection of changes I had made, I realized how difficult it is to go against cultural norms. Thank you Ms. Bowen for the lesson as well as an enjoyable reading experience.
