About this listen
Critic reviews
"This collection of eyewitness accounts of the Civil War presents a wide range of experiences; civilian, officer, slave, and poet all tell of what they saw. Among the most prominent are: Grant, Sherman, Pickett, and Whitman. The five readers all give distinctive voices to each character as they read. All are believable and make one realize that history is the story of people." (Publishers Weekly)

Diverse and Entertaining
As an avid Civil War buff I was looking for something different. After reading the publisher's review, "Blood" seemed interesting. I was not disappointed. The editor's selection of letters, diary entries and brief fiction is varied and kept my interest from beginning to end. From brief accounts about babies in war tents, to Sherman's march to Savanah, to Lincoln's letter to a friend questioning what the masses would have him do, it's all here. The most touching letter was from George Pickett to his wife the day after his failed charge at Gettysburg. Excellent audio quality with different readers.

Excellence in both material and narration
If you are a civil war buff, then this book shouldn't be missed. The material chosen is excellent, and the different cast of narrators brought these stories to life. It is hard to select a favorite among these however, I thought the Whitman stories of his visits to the wounded in hospitals during the war were very powerful.

Boring
Not interesting or informative. Each section could have been shorter. The idea of multiple stories is neat but the stories were dull.
