About this listen
The twentieth book in the hugely popular Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus series from New York Times bestselling author Faye Kellerman
When fifteen-year-old Gregory Hesse is found dead, a single gunshot to his head, it appears to be a tragic suicide. But his mother refuses to accept the verdict and pleads for a police inquiry.
Detective Peter Decker of the LAPD, working the case, knows only too well what secret lives teenagers live. He and his wife Rina have recently become responsible for Gabe Whitman, an enigmatic and gifted teen, whose parents abandoned him.
Just weeks later, a sixteen-year-old girl enrolled at the same exclusive high school as Gregory commits suicide. Decker’s probe into the lives of these privileged teenagers, uncovers a dark trail of twisted allegiances and unholy alliances. With the return of Gabe’s father, former hit-man Chris Donnatti, the case takes an even more sinister turn…
©2011 Faye Kellerman (P)2011 HarperCollins1- Is it the writing, or the narrator, or the fact that I listen in 1.5X speed… or a combination of all 3 that causes the teenaged characters in this series to NEVER ring true? They are nauseatingly polite and goofy and I don’t buy their angst for a second. This was true with Rina’s boys when they were younger and it’s true now with Gabe et al. (seriously, “Cuckoo Bird” as a term of endearment??? barf!)
2- Enough with what people are wearing all the time!!! Let me use my imagination please.
3- I am totally over Rina. What else does she do but fawn over her husband and cook great meals… and bring her husband sandwiches when he’s working late? ARGH. Tedious.
Nevertheless, I am still a fan!
Good, but I have some gripes.
