Publisher's summary

I was born to be a vampire hunter.

In her days, my mother was known simply as "The Huntress." I had great expectations placed on my shoulders, even after she left the world of Paranormal Protection to raise me.

I've never struggled to live up to them. I've only been hunting for a short time, but I have my own nickname. "The Vampire's Bane."

Everything is going great, until I find something I never thought I would see, something that shakes me to my core. Vampires are heartless monsters, and they would never save a witch like me.

Now, I'm on the run from the very council to which I swore my life.

Even worse, I'm on the run with four infuriating (and sexy) vampires. Things couldn't possibly get any worse, right?

Vampire's Bane is an enemies to lovers 18+ Paranormal Romance that includes MM themes in later books.

Great Narration, Good story

With full disclosure, I wouldn't have read this book if it wasn't gifted to me. I'm cool with vampire stories, supernatural stuff, etc, but when I started this book I really didn't know what it was going to really be about. So, I'm going to break this review into two parts. Hopefully James doesn't regret asking for this review. 😁

Narration:. James does very well with the narration of this title. The overall pace is very good with only a place or two where I think a couple of sentences ran together. It may very well have just been me too since I was typically multitasking with yard work. In either case I didn't lose track of anything and it didn't detract from the story at all. The characters are easily discernable and consistent once you get to know them. Overall James does a great job and I'd gladly listen to any other titles.

Story: Well, this really isn't my genre. I don't want to spoil anything other than the romance parts I don't care about were very well organized into their own chapters. Once I knew who and what were involved, it was easy to skip. That said, you may miss some very important details of you skip the first romance chapter as it's a huge part of the plot. It does get explained later on, but could leave you scratching your head soon after the encounter.

The story on its own is very intriguing and does take you on some interesting twists within typical supernatural lore. For purists, this might upset you, but I found it entertaining. Enough so, that even with this being solidly in a section of the book store is pass up, it's a story I'm eager to finish.

Alexis does a good job with character development and the story itself certainly has it's "aha" moments. At the beginning, the story also centers around the Midwest and I can easily picture some of the places that are inferred throughout.

So, perhaps I've been converted, or perhaps it's just good enough of a story, but I'm looking forward to future releases! thanks for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this book.
