Publisher's summary

When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order's propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there's a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.

Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order's intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he'd left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.

Blood and Thunder

What did you like best about this story?

Blood & Thunder is the second book in the THIRDs series and another strong installment.

"When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie".

Dex is a person who goes all out. He gives 100% of himself to the job and his personal life.

When he puts himself in danger in order to save his team member, Sloane loses it.

Part of it is the chase after group responsible fr the bombings, and another part is due to his feelings and personal and sexual relationship with Dex.

Sloane is closed off and doesn't let himself trust the connection he has with Dex.

Dex makes Sloane feel, makes him laugh and live again. Sloane has a hard time letting go of the pain of losing Gabe.

I loved Dex and in this book. his love for Sloane was evident. He took care of him as a true partner does.

He was also extremely patient with Sloane, when any other man would have let go.

Dex understood Sloane's pain and was willing to wait. It was heartbreaking reading about him in an intimate scene and having Sloane utter Gabe's name .

In Blood & Thunder we see a lot of progress both relationship wise and professionally.

After Dex gave himself completely to Sloane, I loved seeing him jealous after seeing Dex with his ex boyfriend.

What does Mark Westfield bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved Mark's narration. He brought all the characters to life.

He did a marvelous job narrating easy going Dex, hard ass Sloane, playful Cael and all the other members of the squad.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!!

It has non stop action, funny and sexy times & heartbreaking moments .

This book is pure entertainment in ebook and audio format.

Not very deep but enjoyable

To me this is a "feel good" series so far. Everything between Dex and his partner Sloan seemed to go a little too smoothly, but for me that is OK. At this point the characters are all extremely likable but not much depth just yet. The book is concentrating on the two main characters and fleshing out their personalities particularly Sloan's character. He has a deep dark secret that he is keeping from Dex which I feel under normal circumstances would cause trouble in a relationship but as I said before with these two it isn't much of a problem as both are very patient with each other. The world the author has created is also still being fleshed out and is very interesting with the two races, humans and Therians, learning how to get along with each other. The book deals nicely with racial inequality, some people very excepting of each other and others extremely bigoted and hateful of those who are different from themselves. For the most part however the book deals with the relationship between the two main characters that started in the first book of the series as they are discovering more about each other as their adventure unfolds. There is also a fair amount of hot sex between the two men which is tastefully done. As this is an audiobook the narrator does a good job with the characters different voices and personalities. He also throws in some special effects such as talking to each other through communication devices which is kind of neat. Overall I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to the next installment.

Excellent 2nd installment

This is a great series, but you really have to read in order to get the full effect. In this installment Dex and Sloane's relationship continues to progress, however Sloane is having a hard time moving forward from Gabe. He continues to push Dex away until he realizes how much he has to lose if he loses Dex. There is action and drama as the search for Isaac continues and we get more insight to some of the other couples in Destructive Delta. The witty banter and interaction between the characters continues to be my favorite thing about this series. I've already read the 3rd book and can't wait for it to come to Audible. The narrator's silky bass voice is great for most of the characters and he does a great job. Definitely worth a credit.

Better and better

I was amazed by the first book, portraying gay men in a way I can finally identify with. This second book just increased the love for the characters Charlie sculpted and I cant wait to see what happens next.
The narrator Mark Westfield really brings the story to life...and he has an incredible sexy voice.

Better than the 1st

Much much less technical speak that a regular civilian would understand so that was nice.

This book had a lot more comedy in it. I found myself chuckling or lol several times.

We got to know all the characters better, and we meet a few new ones. We also find out what Sloane has been hiding.

I still wouldn't call this a romance, it's more of a spy type book or military. But there is very realistic reactions to the events and I love that their relationship isn't all wonderful rainbows all the time. It's gritty, it's sweet, it's frustrating, it's angry, it's bad self esteem and communication problems. Just like a REAL relationship.

I enjoyed this book much more than the 1st one, the plot was awesome, the characters even more fleshed out, the team is coming together
The MC go through a lot with out it being some ridiculous event that is out of character just to get the plot where they want it. It's realistic reactions to stress, frustration and pure fear for each other. It also isn't the MC always kick butt and beat off tons of people etc. The fights are also realistic.

With the Covid pandemic this also hits a little close to home even though this was written before that. It's an interesting take on shifters, with no omega stuff or anything like that. Not that isn't good, love those too. This isn't fated mates where it's instant love abd perfect relationship. If you can suspend reality to accept her premise which is easily done, it's very well thought out and planned and organized etc.

The narrator while new to me is very good. Occasionally I have a hard time knowing which character is which but there are sooooo many that's expected. I LOVE the way if they are talking on their speakers it sounds kinda staticky and like they are actually speaking through a walkie or earpiece. Very well done. Not to slow, not to fast, good inflection and tone. Nothing caught my eye at sound issues etc. Very professional.
